A Sonax 'BSD' beater? (A comparison with Gyeon Q2M Cure)

Featured Replies

I’ve recommended Sonax BSD for many months now, since I read about it on the net

As a result I like to think that many have tried it and, like me, love it!!

In short, it’s the best spray sealant/QD that I’ve ever used.........Its beading properties are unparalleled and it's a perfect complement to any Wax or Sealant

However, thanks to Dinski (Carl) who sold me a bottle of Spray Sealant he no longer needed, I may have found a BSD/QD replacement...Certainly for topping up an existing Wax or Sealant...not sure it actually works quite as well on a wax. I will have to keep my eye on that.

The one property that BSD lacks IMO, is a slickness after application...This one does have it and all the other attributes of BSD, except that it costs more...LOL

So cant be a perfect comparison to BSD in that one respect only

The Product itself is GYEON Q²M Cure QD

Manufactured to compliment Quartz Sealant (Gyeons own specifically)...it can be used effectively as a topper to any LSP, Ive read

Here is a description from 'i4Detailing'

Gyeon Q2M CURE is the ultimate maintenance product for every type of base coating. It adds extra hydrophobicity, makes the surface feel slicker and has magnificent anti-static abilities.
Q2M CURE can be used as well on unsealed paints, working as a spray sealant with two coating modes, both wet and dry. In such case it will last for over 4 weeks, up to 2 months. This product is also excellent to be applied after carwash in order to remove any watermarks from drying towels and add gloss to the paints finish.
As Q2M CURE is based on SIO2, its regular use will have a major influence on the base coatings’ durability by extending its performance.

Durability: >6 weeks
SiO2 percentage: >5%
Contact angle: >80'
pH tolerance: pH 4-9
Consumption: 30ml/car

 Read here too.....CLICKY

I have used it for a while now on both our cars and the beading and slickness is epic!!

Despite it being recommended as topper to Quartz Coatings...it works on all LSP's!!!

Ive tried it!

In a different league price wise Chris.

You've then got to look at the new reload from carpro and the likes.

When you can get 5l of bsd for 38 quid delivered, I can't say i would compare the two. In application maybe, but not in value buddy.

Thats its only problem..its not as good value...but the slickness makes up for that for me

BTW...Ive not tried Reload...Im only comparing it to BSD

I personally love c2v3 diluted down to act as a QD, beading and slickness all in one.

Only thing is I can't comment on longevity as I don't wash my car that often, but I'd say a few months.

edited: as sooo many spelling errors!

Im only comparing it to BSD Guys...Im sure other QD's youve used offer similar qualitites

Perhaps a side by side on the bonnet with your own favourite and Gyeon would be good

Carl has mentioned it before

My every day QD remains intact...Power Maxed Quick Detailer ( I have a Trade Account with them) and have 6 litres!!

Gyeon Q2M Cure is in a different league though and is more suited to applying over Sealants and Ceramic coatings

Sounds similar to C2v3 which like Cure can be applied to base unsealed panels.

I have Gyeon Wetcoat to try.

You won't be disappointed, WetCoat is excellent.

Ah ok, title has changed mid way through. Not tried the Gyeon to compare.

Thanks, not sure I'll be trying it anytime soon as I have only just finished the top up of Sonax you gave me last year and have another 5L to get through after having a Amazon moment before I get any more LOL....

After reading this I looked up BSD, it's currently just £34 something for 5l on CYC. Postage brings it to £39 something but I've a feeling if you can make an order over 50 quid postage is free.

I have never used a QD or QS.  But bought some AG aqua wax to try as a drying aid the other day.  I'm sort of intrigued to try BSD at is price, but would never use 5l !  Anybody around south London interested in splitting a bottle?

Agreed 5l of BSD will take some getting through but it is so good you find yourself using it weekly as I did, but I own so many QD's that I just try to work my way through them, I gave about 2ltrs of BSD away to friends too. In summer I tend not to use BSD and go for something it little more slicker and gives better shine and dust repellent like FK 425.

I'd be interested to see Gyeon on your car Chris (some pics) but I am glad your pleased with it and comparing it to BSD is a big up for Gyeon cure.

I still have 2 bottles of Gyeon Q2M Prep if your interested. Goes hand in hand with Cure.

Thanks Carl ...I dont need any 'Prep' at this time matey

I do have some Powermaxed QD for you if youre interested though

Thanks Chris I could be interested. I forgot to bring you a sample of rapid revenge and artdekotsos over last time.

Remind me next time I see you.

I don't want to be seen to intentionally steer a good post off course Chris, but this comment absolutely baffles me.

Aside potentially from cost, especially as I found I used quite a lot when getting used to the product I'm staggered you weren't impressed with WetCoat.

With no intention at all of being antagonistic, we all have a right to our opinions, what was it you didn't like?

It affected my LSP...Left streaks all over the car and no amount of Pressure wash spray improved it

Dont know if I applied too much..I followed the instructions on the bottle

Like other products...some get on with them, some dont

Im staggered too that some dont get on with BSD ...so horses for courses I guess

Fair answer, for my own interest can I ask if it was a coating or wax that it went on top of?  I doubt it was excess application as I really over applied my first few times.  I guess more likely a reaction to that particular LSP.

My personal experiences have left me a huge advocate of Wetcoat particularly on cars with no protection but I haven't had any problems with streaking, if I had, maybe I would feel different.

It was Waxed with BSD as a topper

I would imagine that that was the problem and it could work better on naked paintwork

Interesting, I have tried over wax and over sealants and coatings.

All I found with Wax is that the Wetcoat longevity was hampered by the wax and to an extent with sealants, obviously no such compatibility issues on naked paint or over SiO2 Coatings, in fairness I don't think the main reason for launch was to go over non Silica type coatings.

Makes me think that it didn't play nice with BSD

For me Wetcoat as a spray on wash off standalone LSP it is sensational. I also think BSD is an exceptional product, whether you like all its characteristics or not, it is a real achievement for Sonax to have come up with something that does what it does quite so well and at a very reasonable cost.
