stolen PID

Featured Replies

If anyone is offered a PID in the Eastleigh area of Hampshire with a serial No. ending 0418. Please PM me and report it to the police as ours has been stolen from the car along with the mounting. Unfortunately it looks like the car was unlocked overnight.

Might be an idea to keep eyes peeled for any new eBay listing in that area, hope you get it back

Oh sorry to hear. Hope you can trace/find it.

Pity they don't have a 'find my PID' facility like the iPad. Dennis.

IIRC the PID is also useless to anyone buying it, because on first use it locks itself to that car. Unfortunately the PID looks like any run of the mill Garmin Satnav so is liable to theft.

Not true I'm afraid and if you put another mount on it and plug it in it will act as a normal sat nav. I used mine like that in a hire car when my wife's sat nav was needed by her.

It does work in other cars. I never left mine docked when parked anywhere. I'd always remove it from show.

Thanks for the support. Ours was not left on show but in the glove box. I am looking on fleebay at the PID's as a new one from a dealer is £303.00 and the support bracket £94.00.

I know it will work as a satnav in other vehicles. But will the other features also work as well e.g. trip, dial's etc?

We had just bought a two year update package from Garmin for the PID. I am going to contact Garmin to cancel the registration.

On the Garmin site it says: -

In case of theft: -

▪     Your device cannot be tracked through its GPS receiver.
Since the navigation device only receives the
GPS signal it can not be located using GPS.

▪     If you had already registered your device, we can cancel
this registration. In this case please contact our customer support

Customers from the United Kingdom please call:08082380000 (outside the UK 0870 850 1242) (rate depends on local provider).
Our customer service is there for you from Monday to Friday 08:30 am to 17:30 pm GMT (except official holidays).

Virtually all the other features work off the ECU so won't work on a vehicle that isn't kitted out for a PID without enormous effort. It'll play music off the SD card through it's own speaker.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the info.

I should have made it clear. what  I ment by other vehicle is buying a PID that had been coded to one Citigo and using it on a second Citigo, Up etc.

I have now been offered a second hand PID (boxed) so will soon find out!

It will work with any other Citigo etc, I have a second hand one from an Up! which reset itself to Skoda and worked ever since.

What he said, if you do some wizardry on the Computer, you'll find the Loading Screen for the Mii, Citigo and Up!

Thanks,

I have bought the second hand one which was from a Seat. So will delve into the program and change it to a Skoda.

I will also get the new one added to my Navigon fresh account.

Just plug it in on the car, my up one went straight to Skoda.

This ^^ it pairs to the ECU to work out what car its for

This is one of the reasons I wont buy a citigo/up/mii. The satnav etc should be inbuilt, or you may as well just get a TomTom etc. I don't want to have to take the PID with me or keep putting it in the glove box, I would end up leaving it in there. I only use a satnav when I am lost. It's a strangely backward/old system to me.

It is a little odd, but if the sat nav was inbuilt it could still be stolen! When I get my car I will probably only remove it if I am at the shops out of town, my home and work are very safe.

That's exactly what I did.

Our main car has an inbuilt pid like device, and I much prefer the Citigo pid for location, I hate using the sat nav on the main car as I don't like trying to look too much away from the road to see the sat nav in areas I don't know, to the point of fitting a tom-tom as well. I have to say though, i'm not convinced with Garmin on the Citigo, I've been tom-tom for years now, I guess its just a case of getting used to it. Apart from that its good for media, both BT and SD card, and the car info bit is great as well as the parking sensors, and the phone bit.

Well just got the Garmin and plugged it in. All the gauge, trip and satnav seems to work fine but have not paired a phone or added music yet. Just need to get rid of the annoying SEAT start up screen!

Just talked to Garmin to de-register the stolen PID and transfer the replacement over to me. However Garmin are being a little naughty. I had only just paid for a two year update on the old device. As the newer one is a Garmin and not a Navigon I may have to pay for another two years update!!! The are also after a paper copy of the crime report which the police don't send out any more!!!

Garmin are one of the most unfriendly company's I've ever had to deal with. Customer service takes os long to reply that by the time they do you've forgotten what you wanted.

And don't get me started on their website and update downloads, they hold the record fro the slowest download speed. I also don't like being nagged by a Garmin Express popup that says they've stopped support for Windows XP and soliciting me to upgrade to Win 7/8.

Having said that the device in my wife's Seat Mii and the Nuvi that I use in my Yeti are good.

Well Fred,

I was going to disagree with you on them being unfriendly until today.

I had contacted them the day after my last post and talked to a really helpful person who just transferred the garmin over to my account. so I could then update the maps. However, after updating the maps I had a brainwave (not good usually). So I did a factory reset and when I plugged the Garmin into our Citigo. It coded itself as a Citigo PID. Brilliant I thought everything working including text talk and much better than the original Navigon. Then I went back into Fresh and it see's the PID as a Skoda unit. But will not allow me to update the maps as its not on my account any more.

I contacted Navigon via Garmin and get told that she will have to contact Garmin in Germany to see what can be done and I should get a reply by next week!!!!!!!!!. The strange thing is its the same serial No. on the unit. But just says Skoda instead of Seat. So if i had a PID and changed cars I might not be able to transfer the map update if I factory reset it to a different make?

Oh me thinks I'm going to enjoy either getting the map update sorted for this unit or a refund or both. Bring it on!!!!!

Well phoned them today and pointed out that I had just paid for a two year map update and since doing a factory reset the unit had now become a Skoda PID (but still had the same serial No.) I then said that if I was to change my car for a VW or Seat. Then doing a factory reset it would then take on the brand when attached for the first time, yet still be the same device. They then reset my map update to yesterdays date. I shut down and restarted Navigon Fresh. Connected the PID and whoopee map updates available.

Good news at last [emoji106]

See the following email reply I got from Garmin.

Once connected with a car the device is branded to this car and can't be used with a car of another brand.

It will be necessary to have this device replaced by a new PID device with no branding, in order to be able to use it your car.

I would recommend contacting the dealership about this.

I apologize about any inconvenience caused.

Please help us improve the service we offer you by taking our Customer Support survey.

I do wish Companies would give correct information. Needless to say they got a survey reply telling them that they don't know what they are talking about!!!!!  :p
