2.0 CR aircon compressor bolt failure

Is a/c a necessity Brian? Just remove the compressor and fit shorter belt job done for less then £15

I ended up getting a goodwill contribution from Skoda and my local dealer, so it ended up being substantially less than the price I quoted above

I see what you mean about aircon, but it does make it more comfortable when we do get a bit of decent weather

Glad to see you've got it sorted Bryan. Another case of it pays to use the dealer after the warrenty is up.

Certainly was, full dealer history since new, plus four Skodas came in handy, didn't even have to push them, which is surprising after reading some of the comments about Skoda customer service, I've got nothing but praise for them

On another recent thread 'Aircon', Mattvr says the bolt can be tightened up.

It looks like mine is missing altogether though!

I need to get underneath when time and weather permits, to investigate further.

Pity they wouldn't let you keep the old one, Brimma. I'm a (bit of) a conspiracy theorist myself, and will have to wait and see if I can get it working myself, or not.

I did exactly the same after my compressor failed 5 years ago.  Never looked back!  We don't get that many really hot days here in the UK anyway.

Dave

But when you've done a hard days graft, and the car has been sat in the :sun: , and you've then got to drive for three quarters of an hour at motorway speeds, still in the :sun: , then    and need a few    , and one of these :rain: . Its necessary for some of us.

Just went out to check my compressor bolt.

I think mine in a sanden as it looks like this one;

So I think I'm ok as my bolt looks the same as the picture.

Has mine been changed then? Would it have originally had a Delphi?

How old is yours Phil? It may have already been replaced.. but they also fased them out on the newer models.. mine is a 2009 and still had the old type so if yours is newer it may have had the new type from factory

If your going by the pulley, the Delphi and the sanden both look identical. I would get a mirror and slide it down just behind the pulley with a torch so you can see the parts label. I had 5n0820803A on my Delphi, I just fitted a Nissens unit.

The bolt on the pulley on the earlier one (i assume Delphi) is different. Its a single Torx30 not the bigger nut like the picture at the top of this page

Mines in an MY08 57 plate. Had 20k miles on the clock when we bought it.

It's definitely not a torx bolt on the end and definitely looks identical to the picture above.

Phil

Maybe its the other way round then.. mine is a CR170 so the newer engine.. might just be the CR engines with the naff t30 that creaps out

Mine has been replaced by the previous owner but i havnt got a clue what type he got. Mine has a single bolt in the middle but it isnt a torx its a 12 or 13mm hex.

I tried to tighten the bolt after I finished the change over. Even out the car it will not tighten.

You need an 3/8 buzz gun or similar to jolt it into starting.. because you cant hold the nut at the other end. You cant tighten it by hand

Ok cheers, will give that a try.
