Had ago at touching up today!

Featured Replies

Sadly the previous owner of my car appears to have been using it for rallying as every corner of the car has scratches on.

I only paid a couple hundred quid for it so doesn't bother me much but thought for £4 I'd have ago with a touch up pen!

Got about 20 pictures all round the car, will add more later.

Good effort

Have you ever used 'Chipsaway'?

I used them once...They were very good indeed..You couldnt tell it ever had any damage

Nice job Richard - as said before; great little project car to practise and perfect your skills!

Well done, much more pleasing on the eye

Thanks.

Yeah, this is definitely a great car to practice on. I tried out a few products I had today as well.

I've done the Bonnet in AG HD wax and used Aqua wax on the roof. Was a good chance to do those for now since I was touching up the rest of the car so couldn't put any product on.

As said, it was £4 for a small touch up pot, I asked the guy to mix in abit lacquer when he makes it and used a tiny brush used to paint model cars and planes etc to apply it.

N/S/R after - the small patch was the first one I've done, I left it 30 minutes and went to apply again which obviously wasn't long enough because the brush strokes took the top surface back off.

This is the worst of the bunch. The bumper is beyond repair really, it has over 100 stone chips, two cracks and about four areas bigger than a 50p. In still happy with it but it's still hideous really :D

Again...Good effort for £4

I've never used them, but I've seen them in business parks and offices doing customers cars while they are busy at work. They seem to do a lot of prep work which was good to see.

Very good effort for little expense.

as you say - paint+lacquer mix (plus a little bit of paint thinners) can reap great rewards.... with a little patience!

only one way to get better at things and thats practice

Much better buddy. Great work!!

Well my girlfriends just came through the front door and the first thing she said was "have you used your pen thing today?!"

She's amazed at the results :D

The downside is she said "do mine!"

Her car is a 2014 candy white VW Golf, I don't want to touch it! She only has the odd stone chip on the bonnet but think I need more practice and research before going at her car!

That looks great, Hutchy.

Is it obvious up close and personal?

Sadly so, it's just taken your eye off them, the scratches that have been deep enough to remove some of the plastic from the bumper are still visible but more of an outline.

I would never get them blended in completely without using some sort of filler to raise the damage and then sand back down.

I wanted to avoid spray painting if possible so this was my option.

The handle on the boot is a wreck, so will be sanding that down and spray painting it so will post pictures when I do that.

Edit: some of the smaller stone chips arnt visible anymore unless really close up and even then hardly notice.

It looks better again now they have dried, the colour match seems better still. Hopefully looks better once I've washed and sealed them also since the panels are dry and bear after the panel wipe before painting.
