Have you ever...?

They're great until you fart in one!!

I've ound some products can cause irritation afterwards so I always wear nitrile gloves now. Plus I don't like the smell of car polish on my hands for days afterwards!

Strange..What polish are you using?

I was more thinking what soap are you using.  I am doing a car now, and sure, right now as I am typing this (waiting for sealant to cure before waxing over it) my hands are a little mucky / feel funny, but i know a good wash when I am done plus maybe a bit of E45 and I would be none the wiser of today's arduous hand-damaging work :D

Agreed Jason. A good wash and some hand cream. No problems

However. I must reiterate.....gloves are possibly a good idea. I just hate wearing them except when applying ceramic coatings

I take the point from you manly men :) or those who prefer not to.

I would personally agree with Jules, especially if you detail regularly. I use the Black Mamba gloves to ward off sensitisation, dry irritation, reaction and long term a really bad case of old man hands. If you can cope with working with them on, I dont see why you wouldn't.

I don't disagree with anyone wanting to wear them at all....long live personal choice

Well after looking at the data sheets, everything is safe to handle from the autoglym detailing bag apart from the alloy wheel stuff which I expected really.

At least it means I can breath in all the Aqua wax I want! It smells beautiful :D

I'm going to use gloves from now on when applying products apart from when using the sheep skin wash mitt.

Edit: The gloves arnt needed for safety reasons for any of my products, but like people say, better on the skin over all and stops your hands smelling all day. The gloves are about £2.50 a box and again... I already have them stuck on the side of my toolbox.

I'm not trying to force people to use them so didn't mean to imply that I think everyone should. Safety glasses wise I were glasses anyway so these protect me from most gentle misting its just my hands that bother me.

Gloves are very much a personal preference..... no argument

BUT I would say, as detailing products advance - some pretty hefty chemicals are being introduced.

The key area where i see this is being thrown up as a concern is on the courier side of things.

Many Couriers now ask for full MSDS disclosure before accepting orders. (MSDS - Material Safety Data Sheet.)

Not so much that one product is dangerous - but that different products, could leak, and mix, and potentially become volatile/dangerous when mixed.

So - with this in mind - wearing gloves when going through a full detailing regime - could be a worthwhile and safety conscious method.

Anyway - some gloves I would recommend... none are that expensive either...

Black Mamba are good and widely used - I have these.

The last WaxPack came with a sample of a new nitrile type called Tiger Grip - with added grip/pimpled surface; still to try them.

Another useful glove I get from Costco is the mechanics gloves - which are not latex or water proof, but have a rubberised palm and finger surface.

Comfortable and breathable and quite grippy and especially useful in the winter months too. Can't find a link on these.... but i'll try and post up later.
