Cupra 160 Air Intake

Featured Replies

To all the people who have had this mod fitted - once the air filter has been changed (green cotton) and the intake has been swapped to the cupra 160 version - has anyone ever actually noticed any difference? I know this is usually done to complement a re-map, but just wondering if anyone has had this only and noticed any diff?

This has been covered many times, use the search facility on the site, I'm sure you will find many different opinions.

Heres mine:

I have the intake alone atm and ive noticed quite a difference. revs a lot easier and feels smoother

Same with mine

The main difference I noticed was it is much freer to rev, especially at higher revs.

the main difference is it clogs up your air filter in less than a month!

I think cleaning every 5000 miles is about right. Much more often than the 40,000 miles interval with a paper element!

I can't get my head around the difference in how quickly they get dirty. Maybe its simply down to the Green having better airflow?

Or the fact its pulling in more air due to the larger intake.

Dont see why it would clog the filter up exponentially more quickly. Anyway, is the SEAT intake an exact fit? And will it have any effect on warranty?

the reason being the bigger pipe is open to direct airflow from the front of the car, whilst its not on the ibiza, and the smaller pipe has the air deflected.. so its got less chance of sucking in bigger particles like dust, flies etc

It doesn't clog up the filter exponentially more!

It is an exact fit, but some people have reported that it can rub on the adjacent hose, it needs to be checked every now and again, I quick visual check everytime you check your oil should do!

Effects on warranty: Couldn't say, if in doubt take it off before making any waranty claim, there is no way the dealer could know it's been on there!

How much is a standard filter anyway?

I'd guess that even changing it at 5K intervals, wouldn't break the bank.

The standard filter won't flow as much air, so you lose half the benefit!

does anyone have a picture of this 160 intake?

hope it works! :thumbup::thumbup:

It doesn't for me :( Just says access denied...

same for me - just says access denied.

Having read all the posts so far - im gonna go with the 160 intake and see how it goes. If its rubbish its only thirty quid.

wats 30quid a night on the lash , i done my intake and green filter at the same time , and the car felt instantly quicker , felt more torqy and as said b4 freer (typo) revving think the green filter was 36quid , oh and clean n at 5-6k ,

cant go wrong, but one!!

Interesting remark. Got any data to back this up..? There have been various tests around the net and by certain magazines that would indicate a freeflow filter element is not noticably better than the standard element. The pd160 intake will however allow more air to be sucked in and will add benefit with even standard filter. What ff airfilter will however do is make the accelerator response a bit sharper and the engine will sound a bit coarser.. anyway I'd take any claims about power increase with grain of salt until proven otherwise. Dyno test before/after fitting the element would be sufficient (on the same day so air temp etc. don't affect the test).

Evidence?

No ... but the week after the car was serviced (and a new filter put in) I changed the air filter for one from Jetex and noticed an immediate improvement in mid range torque.

Does seat of the pants evidence count?

Also, after seeing a friends engine trashed on a dyno whilst being operated by 'an expert' (and the subsequent legal wranglings) there's no way on earth I would strap any of my vehicles to one.

I put mine on a dyno a few months after buying it! the techno guy asked me how far do i want him to rev it an i said till the limiter kicks in! it cant of been his fault that the engine malfuctioned!. I doubt that doing a dyno run on a diferent day would make much difference as they put a whopping great big fan at the front of your car.
