Booked a trip to Nurburgring next month, any advice?

Featured Replies

As title guys/girls, I am driving to the ring next month with a few mates (one in his Aston Martin?!) and going to have a few mild laps of the ring in the VRS - any advice from people who have actually been in theirs? We are boating over from Harwich then going to drive down via Belgium i think. Want to try and find a decent night out around Belgium for the Saturday night too if anyone can suggest anything? Thanks!

Just take it steady and don't try and show off.

Go at your own pace that you/your car feels comfortable with.

Check your mirrors!

I did a couple of laps last year and really enjoyed it.

Play Forza or something to get to know the track :D

Enjoy.

First thing i did was to get Forza out on the old xbox! Going to the ring 10 years ago would of been a mistake, but at 32 think i will be going round like mary poppins! bit nervous about passenger rides in the Aston though! Thinking that tools, jack and some spare front pads will be a good idea...........................

Spot on advice. There are some seriously fast and seriously mad people who use the Nordschleife. Unless you are careful, you could be eaten for breakfast.

Recommend this place should you need accommodation. It is within a mile of the Ring.http://www.nuerburgring-zimmer.de

Cheers for that - I have booked us a mega cheap apartment that sleeps upto 6, it was only £110 for the weekend! although it is 20 miles away from the ring. I am also wondering if a helmet is a good idea? I know many do not bother but i care about my head...........

Play on the Xbox 360/a gaming console and get to know the track! :D However remember if you crash in real life you don't get a second chance.

Enjoy it and keep it steady! :P

A set of part worn tyres perhaps? I suppose it all depends how hard you're going to go at it. But you could soon destroy a brand new set of fronts with the aggressive driving of a track day. As you said - spare discs and pads may be a good back up to have.

just remember you can be the safest driver int he world, but the other ****s can and will bring you into their crash and they will be insured and you won't.

Also fluids, makesure your car is tip top condition.  if you drop fluids or anything and a biker or car crashes on them you are liable for it.  Some bills have been in the millions.

I'm scaring you yes but it is the truth so makesure you take it easy .  Oh and secondly makesure you have all your documents on you, local plod this year are doing lots of spot checks.

First lap i would makesure you have a passenger, easier to keep an eye on cars in the rear as some approach at silly speeds.

My personal recommendation is go and rent a Swift from my brother at Rent4ring.  Youll get a full safety briefing, fully insured in a caged swift which is set up properly ( and will be faster than your fabia as a result) and no risk to you or your car.

Have fun though and if you do have any questions PM me, i've already been 6 times this year alone and over this weekend for 24hr and following weekend too, love the place.

Makesure you have a meal in the PK, its cheesy but its on the tourist list, same as pinnochio's also food at burgstube is amazing now, and if you are there long enough go to Cochem its very pretty on a nice day.  theres more to that place than just a racetrack.

I'd highly recommend a trip down to the Mosel as above.

We regularly stay down there and it's beautiful.

It's also not a bad drive down and only about 50kms.

also makesure you drive via Spa, can nip into the track and have a look at eau rouge if never been plus muh nicer route as you can then go all the backroads via Prum.
