E1k Mini Cannonball

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Just wondering if anyone would be interested in this. It's an event being organised by another vag club that I belong to and it is open to all vag cars first, then others if still space.

From e1k.co.uk

Would need 100 entrants each giving in

Call me a cynic, but collecting

I'd completely agree with you there except that 50 times 100 is 5000! Come on Q, keep up mate. Not rocket science.

2k goes to the winner with something for the second and third place peeps. The rest covers the hotel and party costs. Not 100% sure on all details yet. Not spoken to the organiser yet apart from an e-mail asking to put a feeler out.

I shall let you know more as I find it out. :D

Uhhm.... My excuse is an overdose of beer on a school night... Now where is that edit button gone since Colin moved it?

:p Beer is always a good excuse! ;)

Sounds nice, but my car will be not suitable really - Kind of sounds like a 200HP+ sort of thing - especially when they say are "you" and "your car" up to the event... :(

You really want to do this in the UK & North Wales, Police Camera Heaven ! Your Barking Mad,

100 cars whizzing through the UK, its a plod magnet

Up it to 100 a car, do a deal with a ferry company out of season & do a thrash through France, the fuel is cheaper, hotels are cheaper, booze is cheaper & if you did it in say May you would probably get some sunshine.

The french Police are thinner on the ground & they dont have the countryside littered with cameras, also they will stop you at the time so no waiting to see if the envelope arrives, catch 2 or 3 cameras in the UK & yer banned, if your caught in France & you are unlucky to get caught its a fine & on yer way.

Also the UK roads are now I believe too crowded & the standard of driving in the UK is so bad that it would be too dangerous to do in the UK

Concur with Stuart on this one. Scoobynet has cancelled events that involve UK road tours due to the "magnet" effect of some parties.

Tours, Events, now in the UK are rare, any more than 15cars takes serious planning and of course anymore than 3 or is it 5 will count as a rally and associated hassel.

Great concept mind, glad I got cruise control on now.

I thought our little event was handled/planned very well - and all worked out very well in the end. I guess 50 cars is a different story and will attract the attention of the law.

:soapbox: This type of thing bu##ers it up for us when we go rallying and have road sections ~ it also creates a lot of negative PR for legal motorsport.

Thanks but no thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Either compete or do track days ~ racing is for circuits not the open road

from what I can make out, it isn't gonna be a race (flat out style). The organiser is going to do the drive at a reasonable pace and clock how long it takes. The nearest to this time wins the cash.

It sounds like a kind of navigational rally kind of set up. As I have said, I'm not 100% sure of the format. Need to speak with him first to find out exact details.

Indeed it was Jason, mainly because although there were quite a few of us on the day, we split into smaller groups and were therefore less noticable. :)

A "UK CannonBall" would be a total non-starter IMHO

No probs guys.

I think I may be giving this a miss now as I 've been on some of the other sites that this has been offered to. Things could get a bit out of hand!

Some pretty idiotic people look to be signing up.

See you guys for a typically well oiled briskoda meet soon.

If anyone fancies a Briskoda jaunt onto the Continent next year I would be interested but NOT A RACE of any type, just say a Hotel booked for a Saturday night a few hundred miles into France, Early start Saturday, drive at your own pace, meet at the Hotel, Nice dinner & a few drinkies, Jaunt back on Sunday, bit of shopping on the way & Sunday evening Ferry home.

Those who want to try there cars performance can with reosnably little chance of being nicked, others can bring the Wife etc for a jolly jaunt through France & we all meet in the Evening.

I would suggest a Hotel That the quicker drivers could reach from Calais in about 4 hours taking the direct route, say somewhere like the area around Tours, others could then easily do it in 5 or 6 hours max

Does anyone think this is worth persuing ?? or have any other suggestions

If yes post here or PM me & I will put up a post to this effect at the end of next week (after the Cannonball proper)

How about a jaunt taking in the ring. Something I've been wanting to do for years but not had the machinery before now! Could take a drive up through to Germany and then an afternoon at the famous circuit. :D

Graeme - Contact me if you get the itch (not that itch) to go the RING... I'd be interested after seeing all the talk about it before. I'd like to have a crack in my mapped TDI, when I get around to it.

No probs Jason. I'll probably wait till the vRS is mapped too. Just to give the unsuspecting a big shock! :p

And there was me hoping I'd be in a 150HP TDI, and you'd still be in a 130HP one. :p

  • Author

More like a 200hp diesel! :p

Sorry to dissapoint you mate. ;)

I must look into how 200HP is achievable with my existing TDI block... :D

  • Author

Probably is if you spend enough of the folding stuff on it.

I'm wondering if a remap and a tuning box will work together on the vRS. It does on Matts TDi. Should be good for a bit more than 200 then!

I still don't know how the vRS get's 130HP, and is upratable to nearly 200HP, yet my block can only reach 150HP. Something somewhere is making a difference, and I'd love to know what it is.

edit: just thought - you're going to want to change your briskoda handle soon, eh? Reckon a mod can move your post-count over to your new account, whatever you decide to call it... :)

Nah. Will stick with fab16v. Everyone knows me by it, plus it's the same handle I use on all the forums I use. Will be easier to stick with it. ;)
