Damaged door - any recommendations?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. Still enjoying my Octy GL3, especially the great MPG I've been getting on long trips.

However I had an unfortunate incident while on holiday over the bank holiday weekend and wondered if anyone could recommend a good place to rectify the situation.

I was parked on a fairly busy road where the speed limit was 30 but it's not far from where the road slows down from 40. I was putting my son into his car seat with the rear passenger door open fairly widely into the road when, "bang" - I was hit by a passing mini driving too fast.

They clipped the door at its outermost point, and have left a fairly big dent, some cracking in the paintwork from the impact, and a bit of damage to the black plastic, at the bottom of the seal.

The driver didn't stop but I did manage the find the wing mirror he or she lost so I hope they came off worse! I'm just glad they weren't a few inches over as that would have been the whole door off, or worse still my legs!

I'm hoping all this will be easy to repair and, as they didn't stop, I don't really want to have to claim on the insurance.

Can anyone recommend anyone in the South East London for a reliable repair job? I'm hoping it's just a case of replacing the plastic element of the seal, reshaping the dent, and sorting out the paintwork but I'm not an expert in bodywork repair!

Any advice will be most welcome.

*quick edit to add a picture of dubious quality showing the damage*

If your gonna pay yourself don't even inform your insurance company otherwise they'll put your premiums up, I kid ye not.

Posting a photo may help.

Yeah someone else warned me about this. Hopefully I've not revealed too much on here! There should be a pic now. I was writing the post on the mobile version which wouldn't allow it - you must have got in before I could edit.

I've managed to take a few more (marginally) better photos. The auto focus on my phone doesn't seem to like it. Hopefully this shows the damage a bit better. It's hard to get the plastic bit in this light but there's a chunk approx 2cm long missing.

Plastic bit should be a straight swap, and in the right hands a decent bodyshop should be able to straighten the door and do a small pain repair to mask the damage.

It looks like the whole edge of the door has been bent out of line, but still looks repairable.

I know a very good bodyshop, but it is in Derbyshire so not much good for you unfortunately.

Who do you recommend in Derbyshire andyvee, I've caught the underneath of my sill!

Bugger, that's where I was when it happened!

If Enfield isn't too far I'd suggest Manor Body Repairs, they did a fine job when a transit tried to take the front off my company car.  As it was a company car I didn't get to see any bills so I don't know how expensive, or otherwise, they are but they did do a very good job.

Thanks Taff. It might be a bit far but it's an option if I can't find anywhere closer that I can get an endorsement for.
