Good weekend of lower level racing too.

 

Danny Harrison in a BRSCC spec Fiesta won all three races at the first 2018 race meeting.

 

 

Josh who we help in his Mazda also won the first two races in the MX-5 Mazda Super Series, and came 2nd in the third race after just being pipped to the win.

 

Looks like i'm going to be free to come along and get some snaps of the new liveries like last year. Hopefully the weather holds out as last year it was FREEZING.

 

Hope to pop past and say hi if i get the chance, but i'll probably just stand nearby awkwardly.

There is a "BriskyRacing.com" site but it's currently focused on club racing, we will be upgrading it in April.

Got any info on hospitality for donington? Was curious if there would be any packages for a reasonable price. Bit of a mixed weekend but good to see both cars getting a good result over the days racing.

Mixed results, changeable weather and a good gamble on tyres.

 

But lets be honest, if you said that after round one Brisky would be in third place in the BTCC team championship in front of all the manufacturer teams I'd have thought you were mad.

Especially as qualifying was rather interesting....  and those teams are spending at least double what we are per car over the year.

 

Jake got his best ever result.

2nd in race two.  Highest placed independent.

 

Mike got his his best at 8th in race two, then got it up to 5th in race three.

 

Getting one bumped on the green flag warming up lap and put out of the race before the start and a few other things made the day an emotional rollercoaster, but we came away far better than we expected.

However, there is a long way to go, we are 10% of the way in currently.

 

One emotional driver and team!

 

2nd Overall.

1st Independent.

Well done again to Jake and Brisky, some great footage on TV, Jake presented himself well and good result in race three amongst the carnage!!

Round 2 of the BTCC.

 

A tough qualifying for the two Trade Price Cars with Brisky Racing machines, issues with Bushell's car and a technical ride height penalty for Hill saw the cars start 28th and 32nd. A lot to do today!

 

 

The first race started well, despite some issues continuing Bushell made up a lot of places, only to be knocked off the circuit leaving him in 27th, while Hill had a great run moving from 32nd to 17th.

 

Race two saw both cars have some bad luck, a race to forget. Bushell moved back to 28th while Hill lost a lot of places in the last few laps due to a problem, back to 23rd.

 

Then came race three, with both cars some way out of the points at the start it was all to do!
Both drivers made up a huge number of places and put in great drives, with Bushell moving from 28th to 15th and Hill moving from 23rd to 10th. Both cars in the top half of the grid and in the points!

 

Plus due to the amazing amount of overtaking Jake Hill took a lead in the Dunlop Forever Forward award with Bushell in 3rd, with Hill also taking the Jack Sears Trophy in the last race.

A busy and tough day, but great work by the team and everyone involved to make a huge effort to push for points in the last race of the day.

 

Well Done!!!!!!! Great Day by the looks of it!

Looks like a much better season so far even with the ups and downs! I've got tickets to snetterton so hoping to get a good look at the cars on the pitwalk...If I can.

Slightly belated Oulton Park report.

Things are looking up now, after another hard qualifying with the cars in 21st and 24th they progressed to 8th and 9th (later demoted to 8th and 10th) by the last race.

Which was great to see and gave both drivers and the team a boost.

 

 

Mike Bushell took the Jack Sears Trophy as well, coming in at 8th meant he was the highest placed driver never to be on the podium before.

 

 

Friday just gone we ran Mike's car at Brands on a test day.

Valuable data was gained about a couple of set up changes, so hopefully we are now in a position to see some more finishes in the points!

 

I think it's fair to say we've had a busy few weekends...

 

Sunday 15th July.

Brands Hatch CSCC.

Fiesta ST, Lotus Elan and Lotus Cortina.

 

Amazing qualifying, taking pole in all three races.  Me drivign all three with the ST co driven by Mike Bushell and Elan by Ross from JDR.

Mike Bushell and Josh Jackson were also driving the Lotus Cortina to give it a shakedown in the second race the Elan was in.

 

 

1st Elan race went well, 40 minute race and brought home a win by almost 5 seconds.

2nd Elan race there was (unusually for a classic race) a few incidents, lots of cars struggling in the heat and a high attrition rate.  I overtook an E Type that shot off at the start to take the lead and it pulled off 3 laps later with issues.  With a third of the field not finishing we romped home with a two lap lead!  The Cortina suffered a clutch cylinder expiring in the assembly area and so started two laps down in the pits, but still battled back to 6th overall!

3rd race, Fiesta ST.  This was expected be tricky as we were using a spare gearbox with a less aggressive LSD.  I managed to stay out in front off the line and managed to keep a small gap all the way to the pit stop.  Mike Bushell then put in a great consistent drive and brought us home about a quarter of a lap clear.

 

 

3 races, 3 poles, 3 wins.   Just amazing.

 

 

 

On to Saturday 21st July.

Masters "Silverstone Classic".

This was the big one.  The biggest classic car racing event in the UK with well over 300 cars there.

We entered the "International Trophy for GT cars (pre-66) with the Lotus Elan.

Our class being a 4cyl 1600 was the 2nd one, under 2000cc cars.  The other class was over 2000cc and contained dozens of Cobras, E Types and other big power cars.

 

Qualifying saw Jake Hill manage an amazing 7th overall, a great job considering the opposition and there being 58 cars on the grid.  The rest of the top 14-15 cars were all the top class big engine cars with several Elans lower down.

 

For the race he took off and being able to get on it right away had moved up to 4th within 2 laps, comfortable behind three very quick cars.

Then a 911 rolled down the main straight and the safety car was deployed for 4 laps/20 minutes.  This left 15 minutes to go when the green flag dropped.

All the pit stops were done under the safety car and the positions got mixed up leaving us first of the front runners with three big power cars a few seconds back.

 

As the green flag dropped Jake took off and knowing the cars behind were faster in a straight line he made sure to keep maximum corner speed everywhere he could, while fending off the E type behind.  After a few laps the AC Cobra behind the E Type muscled it's way past and started to catch the Elan lap after lap, drawing alongside with a lap and a half to go, but slightly off line trying to force the Elan wide and compromise it's corner entry.  But Jake knew that would allow the Cobra to breeze past on the straight so he kept it nailed and made the Elan as wide as he could, maintaining the perfect line in every corner.  The Cobra tried a couple more times, but just couldn't get past, leaving the lower class placed Elan to maintain first all the way to the Chequered flag.

 

 

An overall race WIN in a field of 58 cars in one of the main races at the biggest UK classic race weekend of 2018.

I have no idea how we top this!

Particular love for the Cortina, which somehow manages to look fresh, and still reference the olde school look for the Lotus Cortina. Even back in the day not everyone that used those body creases as guides for a contrast stripe managed that.

When we did the Brisky Stripes on it the aim was to go for the classic looks with a nod to the team colours.

I think it worked quite well.

 

They did make them in black instead of green for a while after Jim Clarke died apparently.  So we just have a little blue under that.

@BossFox - I'm agreeing with you about the colours on the Cortina (and lots of people have tried to use those creases to create liveries, few as successfully as this).

 

Jim Clark (no 'e') died 7th April 1968, which is into the Lotus Cortina mk2 production.
