My first penalty.

Saw the flag but wasn't sure it was for me.

Didn't see the car number but was there of course as marshalls said (I assume as they have no reason to do anything else) but I couldn't see it.

Waited to see if I got called in on pit board and I did so in I came, a bit late, as I trundled through the pit lane the team were frantically waving towards the pit exit so I drove through.

In hindsight I came in for the penalty with a clear lead, thought the penalty had been changed to drive through so went.  Wasn't about to hang about and see how many cars could pass me.

The pit penalty box was right by the exit so I made a mistake and paid the price for it.  They were actually pointing and waving towards the penalty box.

A telling off and 4 penalty points on my race license until the end of the year.

I put it down to inexperience.

All caused because I switched the engine off a second late in the pit stop, as I was getting out of the car.

Shame really as without the penalty I would have got 2nd and without the extra drive through might have hung onto 1st place possibly.

But you live and learn, was a good result to do the very next race in the meeting in the Elan with Ross from JDR on a shared drive basis (was knackered after 40 minutes in the Fiesta) and get the win.

End result was that the Tin Tops result doesn't stand, so I am only on 5 races instead of 6.  Still a novice because of that too!

Maybe a message on the pitboard in future?

I mean I did wonder a bit because I did not see you deliberately ignoring a black flag (and wasn't aware of them being used of signal penalties as well "you have dangerous damage; pit now!").

No, just need to be more observant.

It's all covered when you do your race license.

I'm out of date here; it's been a while since I last marshalled.

IMO it was a harsh punishment for an even harsher reprimand but as you say, racing is racing. You'll come back stronger and there's no winners penalty in Tin Tops for you ????.

You definitely have a win on the cards though ????

On my front, the Fiesta is underway! Fault diagnosed and should be out testing soon :)

Are you at Donington next weekend?

I'm not, I'm at Anglesey ????

Are you at Donington next weekend?

No.

With the last three rounds being "up North" at tracks I don't know I need a track day or test day to have a look really, then the race day.

With the distance it usually means staying over the night before.

As it's my novice year and we are still working on the car I doubt I'll do much more this year because it means so much time away from the family.

Better to get the car spot on and test at local tracks on a day out.

Going to get everything properly sorted for next year.

That's understandable. Had you been going I'd have definitely come along to spectate as it's easy for me to get to. Still might go anyway if the weather is ok.

Appreciated.

But two days away and two night away to do a race with a car that doesn;t have proven reliability yet does make sense to me.

I also want to do a little more fettling and finish it's development. :)

Think I've just seen a winter project, Guy Martin has just put a Radical tuned Ford engine in his transit, making just under 700bhp!

And he managed to teach me something about CNC rigs in the process; their so-called "programs" are actually topographical points nets and not code!

You gonna do it? Let me know the cost.

if you go onto the MSVT website and look up a random trackday happening at some point, the ARDS test is listed at the bottom where you book the trackday :) like this one is up for £250

Basic cost to start racing is:

MSV Go Racing pack: £113 ( http://www.msvtrackdays.com/car/products/go-racing-pack.aspx )

Medical: aprox £100

ARDS test:  £250

Send off form and you get the license.

Then you need race gear, helmet, suit, gloves, boots, undies etc...

Factor in £700-£1200 depending on your tastes.

Of course you can go nuts on gear but it's not needed.

And a car to use.

will hopefully be able to make some of these, if you start running more cars and need more people for pit crew then i could be on hand to help out

Will this thread have to be re-titled now? :) 'Brisky Racing - not quite Noobs anymore go racing'

None of us have actually finished 6 races yet, so we still have our novice crosses. :D

Hopefully those will all go in 2017.

If you finish the race it shows you haven't been trying hard enough ;)
