None of us have actually finished 6 races yet, so we still have our novice crosses.

Hopefully those will all go in 2017.

I did chuckle at Brands when I qualified on pole with my novice target on the back for all the other drivers.

So here we are, 2017.

Hopefully will lose these novice crosses this year and being me I might have got a little carried away. :D

 

We've upped the number of Fiestas now with some Christmas break purchases to six.  Which is about at the limit of what can be transported without mad issues...

They are shortly going in for paint to make a matching team, with some "go faster and reliability mods" to ensure minimal chance of issues while capable of decent grid positions.

Also over the moon CSCC had two numbers left in the 50 series unclaimed.

So we have 6 cars, all with numbers that start with a 5!

 

 

So looking forward to seeing them all painted up with the team logos on! B)

 

 

Currently we have 3 or 4 people looking like regulars out of 5 cars, and another driver booked in for two "North" circuits later in the year at Donnington and Oulton.

So hopefully it's going to be an interesting year.

It's a shame the logistics of moving cars around is such a pain as I'd happily get one or two more if demand was there.  Although transport could be an issue.

 

If anyone wanted to drive we'd be happy to help.

While it's not cheap to go racing, it's not that different to a summer season track day by the time you factor in tyres, brakes, fuel, wear and tear on your car etc...  and it's a hell of a buzz to be going head to head on a grid of around 30 Tin Tops.

And because I do it more for fun as work pays me OK the cost is actually hundreds of pounds cheaper than renting a car from most other places.

 

Anyone is more than welcome to come along if they want to watch or help out.

We do get a small allocation of free tickets per car for helpers, but even on the gate they are only around £15 for a day out with 5 different series racing.

Each having a 30 minute qualifying session and 40 minute race with a mandatory pitstop.

 

We are the Tin Tops dates.  First race is at Snetterton on Sunday 2nd April 2017.

We can;t as you need a National A license and we are all on National B still as novices still to secure a position in 6 races.

I might make it, but the others won't so we'll look at doing it next year.

Saw snetterton on the list, thought it would be great to come and help out..............then remembered thats the day I go to Scotland to pick up my Capri :notme:  Hope it goes well!

Thankfully Thruxton doesn't clash with CC so, hope to see you in April :thumbup:

Anyway...  update as I had issues logging into Briskoda for a bit.

 

I secured an additional number for us as it became free.

Whoever had 59 didn't renew this year for Tin Tops.

You know, just in case we want to run seven Fiestas, mine and six others...

 

So currently we are here:

Car 50: few finishing touches. (Yellow)
Car 51: final checking and stickers. (Orange)
Car 56: paint shop. (Green)
Car 57: preparation. (Purple)
Car 58: awaiting parts. (Blue)
Car 59: bought and to be collected. (Pink)

 

As you can see they will all be white with a feature colour to make it easier to pick out the drivers from each other at a distance as numbers quite similar.

 

Car 50, is yellow.

It just needs it's racing numbers and a sunstrip and it's good to go!

 

 

 

I am very happy with how it's come out.

Looks clean and will be great to see a few lined up together.

We are looking good to have the first four done for the first race at Snetterton on Sunday 2nd April so we should have five Fiestas in total there.

Not really.

No races in Scotland in our series and it's a long way from London to shift a lot of cars.

I try to not spend other people's money unnecessarily, but for me it's 9 hours to Knockhill, and more like 11 to Oulton Park, 12 to Croft so you maybe see why I'm not likely to head to the tracks you normally do visit?

Makes perfect sense.

 

Knockhill from us with driver hours, HGV carring 4 cars plus a twin deck transporter, fuel and hotels/food meant it was over £3,000 to do a one day event.

Oh yes. I once surprised Barry Lee (yes that one) by pointing out that I'd done as many hours travel to make Knockhill as he had from Essex!

Race 1 - Snetterton Sunday 2nd April.

Our first race running the fleet as we are still getting used to them a bit.

A large grid of 45 cars entered!

 

 

Five Brisky cars out and mine..

 

A good solid finish from Rob in the highest place car that took 2nd in class out of 12 Fiestas entered.

Started 24th and finished 12th.

Was hanging off the rear bumper of the 1st in class car 0.17 seconds behind and lapping 0.12 seconds quicker.

 

 

Buzz as a complete novice started 31st and made it up to 16th by lap 5, at one point briefly getting in front of Rob, before being overtaken by Rob's 50 car and then a slightly enthusiastic bit of cornering let to some tyre contact.

We lost one car due to a wheel bearing, which has led us to change them on every car.

Getting used to the car and struggling with 3rd gear due to a cable fraying Natalie started 39th and finished 28th.

 

 

My own race was amazing, I led into the first corner from the start and with three cars fighting over 2nd I had pulled out a 3 second lead by the end of lap one.

 

 

Car 53 managed to pull away and had a commanding lead, the pit stop went to plan and then at just over half race distance with no other cars in the mirror the CV joint popped...

I have to admit, it wasn't as much fun out in front on my own though, was like driving around on a test or track day.  Another DNF for the board!

Yes still got the Elan.

Plus an Evora now too.

 

Can't race Skyline yet as new MSA rules limits cars over 350bhp/tonne to non novices.

And with 5 classified finishes I'm still a novice.

I was thinking that running the Elan more might make sense for reasons, mostly that it seems to be more reliable than your Briskie Fiesta! And hence you could get rid of the novice cross sooner.

I try to run the cars that are on the same day, as I like to have a day off and not spend all weekend racing.

Fiesta and Evora are Sat and Elan Sunday, so doing the Saturday.

Original plan was to do all weekend as Skyline was both days but now that's not racing I can have Sunday off!

Thruxton Race Report.  Saturday 22nd April.

 

We were running all six Brisky Fiestas and mine.

7 cars on a 42 car grid at the very fast Thruxton Circuit.

 

Was good to have all the cars there and we bagged a space in the paddock on the test day to keep us all together.

 

 

Qualifying went as planned, many of the drivers have not driven at Thruxton before and in a mixed field of cars we needed some solid class positions without taking too many risks.

As they were pressing on and improving someone dumped a load of oil round the track bringing qualifying to an early end.

With 9 Fiestas in the class we were in 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th places.

 

For the race we were formed up in tight formation, a close grid for a standing start.

The drivers got off to a good start, making up a few overall positions and getting right into the swing of it.

 

 

Once the first few laps were out of the way the field spread out a bit, but the sheer volume of cars meant there were constant battles up and down the order.

Great fun and exactly why we like the CSCC Tin Tops so much.

Buzz in the green stripy 57 car battled with the yellow stripy 50 car, getting past round the outside before the pit stop.  Then the 50 car came back once it's 2nd driver was in through the chicane.

 

Meanwhile Kevin and Henry co driving the pink 59 car pushed hard with some impressive lap times.

 

 

My race, sharing a drive with Jake went as hoped.

Making sure I didn't break a drive shaft off the start I dropped from pole to 3rd, but by the 2nd corner was back in 2nd.

Then before Church corner I overtook the Peugeot 306 to retake the lead.

 

The number 9 highly tuned Corsa caught up with us and spent the next 5 laps right on my tail, which made it great fun to drive.

It passed as I slowed for the pits, the timing showing an average gap per lap of 0.1 second.

 

 

Jake then drove the Fiesta brilliantly, putting us back in 1st as the other cars did their pit stops after 3 more laps and pulling out a lead to the flag.

 

 

Overall Brisky Racing had taken the win.

As well as 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th in class.

A great result for the team!

 

A huge thanks to everyone that helped on the day.

We had several people come down from the Ford and Skoda forums and it made the whole day possible.

Without support crew racing just doesn't happen.

Great report, and good photos. Now wondering what the Autosprout report will be like!

It was a great day, especially that you finished the race in your car given some bad luck previously, and taking the win made it that bit extra special! Your battle with the Corsa was fun and he kept you on your toes for sure! I was glad to be there to help all of the team in whatever way I could. Weather was blinding, literally at some points, but at least I had a hat.. poor skippy LOL.
