Haynes manual

Featured Replies

Just a quick question regarding the manuals for the Octavia Vrs tdi. I've just bought a Haynes manual which says it covers the hatch & estate both the 1.9 and 2.0 pd and cr engines. Then does NOT cover Vrs. Stuff like interior panels etc shocks springs will be the same as non vrs models I'm presuming. Unless they fitted a totally different engine in the vrs ( which i don't think they did ) why would this manual not cover the vrs? I was going to return it for a refund but thought I'd find out just why it doesn't cover the vrs. If its just for a couple of sensors or the dpf or something I'll just keep it.

I've never understood why Haynes say it doesn't cover the VRS. It gives service specs etc for the PD170 and CR170 engines, both of which were used solely in the VRS and no other Octavia model. All the rest of the car is basically the same, so it covers the VRS Tdi absolutely fine as far as I can see.

Asked Haynes years ago and any car deemed worthy enough for them to make a manual has to have sold a certain amount of units for a manual to be justified. Afraid it looks like the petrol VRS just didn't sell enough, same as my 1.8t. :(

But from what I can gather the op's VRS is diesel? The back of the Haynes manual claims to not even cover the VRS diesel, which is bizarre because when you read the manual it actually does cover it!

Yes sorry i didn't mention mine is the 170 tdi vrs. I've already bought it but read the first sentence on the back of it stating what it does cover. Then read the last part stating vrs not covered so I'm confused. So it does cover the vrs?

I wouldn't say it covers the VRS specifically but enough of the car mechanicals is the same so worth having the Haynes if you're a keen DIY'er.

To be fair, sporty, or non-mainstream models are often overlooked with Haynes manuals - It's not just the vRS.

Its what i thought. States it covers the 2.0 diesel pd among others so i can't really figure out why they go out their way to say it does not cover the vrs. I thought maybe because of the dpf but it also mentions that in it. I always buy one whatever car i own. I do all my own servicing and maintenance work it's only the really big jobs i wont tackle. It's open now so keeping it.

Hi gents, would someone with experience of using one of these manuals for the Mk2 diesel tell me if there's enough in there to warrant a purchase for general suspension, interior and bodywork stuff? I have an 07 VRS TFSI model.

I would say so, seems daft they don't do one that covers the petrol too or one that does both diesel and petrol like they do for the mk1.

Tbh I've used mine a few times already. Stuff like removing shockers, services, interior trim just general info i think they are worth it. I do tend to use youtube as well as just Google searches as well. All that added together gets me by!!

Also reasonable on the wiring diagram front too, eg locating earth positions or pin assignments for some key electrical components like mirrors or switches etc...
