Citigo Exhaust-like noise

Featured Replies

Hi, ive had my 1 litre citigo for about a month now and at 300 miles the car started to make a noise as if the exhaust had gone. Prior to this it was very quiet and nippy. This has now developed into a deep bassy sound from the engine as well as somewhere underneath.

I took it to the dealer who said they ran it through diagnostic, etc and theres nothing wrong as far as they can see. It seems to be getting worse and all of a sudden its drinking alot of petrol too.

Im unsure what to do as they say the citigo is just noisy. But i seem to have lost power and its really getting worse....

Any advice?

take it to another dealer!

Ive booked it in for a weeks time at another dealer. I wouldnt mind so much but at 40 or 50 mph if you accelerate even a little there is a low frequency noise as if you are in too high a gear, and it only started doing this all of a sudden. I hope they can do something because i absolutely loved the car before this.

If you can, post a video, I'll then see if I can compare it to mine, it could be something very simple to fix and in some ways you could be better of taking it to a local mechanic as most of the time Skoda mechanics will just tell you what they see on the computer, no faults being thrown out by the ECU then its fine

I know this sounds really stupid, but has your airbox popped off the inlet?

Open your bonnet. The big black bit that says "MPI", go to the bottom right hand side, and make sure it isn't wobbling. If it is, push down to put it in place.
If the airbox isn't connected properly to the inlet, you get a really deep sound on throttle press. I had this problem, and fixed it in two seconds. It may not be this, though.

Thanks guys. It might be difficult to get a video as the 40-50 noise might not get picked up. Camelp you stay near me, lol. I will have a look and see if this is loose and let you know. The engine does shake like a jakey with the dt's so this could be it.

Ah, I'm on mobile so can't see location, but can let you hear mine any time, if you want to compare noise! And yes, although you will find the Citigo's engine at idle is very lumpy! Another characteristic of these wee 3 cylinder triplets!

Mines the same,it sounds rough as hell.Going back a week on wed if no joy i'll take it elswhere

You'll be disappointed if you think that 3-cylinder runs smoothly some day. It is what it is, and that's why I like it!

Mine is smooth as silk, maybe not for long

Keep them revs high. They love it [emoji106]

When engine idles it's all over the place, or at least all over engine bay. :sun:  That's just normal.

Another thing mine does is when you press the clutch in then press the accelerator the rev miss is unbelievable

It's another feature, called rev limiter. It's there to protect drivetrain.

Skoda Assist came out and it's more or less what's been said on here is wrong with it.One noise he did hear and recognise was the new modified exhaust heat shield making a noise which is what Bal752 can hear on his car

Thanks guys. Took it to another dealer. Tech guy came for a run. Identified the noise as typical for the citigo. Knew exactly what the noise was before I mentioned it. He's got one and said he's done 30k and its the same but calms down a bit. Drove a new one with 200 miles. Didn't sound quite as bad but almost. So I've just decided to keep an eye on it and keep the stereo on. Lol.
