If you protect the car properly and maintain a good wash scheme weekly you've no reason to touch the paint for at least 6 months depending what you use

The max anyone will get out of a conventional wax like the dodo juice waxes is 6 months, so he will need to top up protection or pre wax cleanse and re-wax. He's not using coatings bud.

You won't do any harm to your paint by using SRP every 6 weeks by hand buddy. I wouldn't personally do it that often but if that's how often you like to it then there's nothing wrong with it. The dodo waxes can last between 2 and 6 months depending on which one you have gone for.

I used purple haze, apparently it suits darker cars.

I would say 2-3 during the summer months on a daily driver buddy. Maybe a bit longer if garaged. At which point you can SRP to strip back and prep the surface for another layer of wax or two.

Although the name suggests it, SRP isn't a polish. It's an All-in-one, so it is basically a cleaner (with some micro abrasives in it to help with this job), with fillers to hide the really fine scratches and also puts a layer of weak sealant down to protect. It is decent at what it does, with a layer of wax over it you won't go far wrong bud.

Like said above though, only clay the car twice a year max. This scratches the paint, SRP will cleanse enough between claying if you feel it needs a freshen up.

Thanks for the info and also thanks to everyone's guidance.

the dojo was a tester, not enough left for another full car. Im happy with a wax that lasts 2/3 months, however i would prefer a wax that is easier to buff off, i found the dojo a bit of a effort. any other wax suggestions - cheap to mid range please.

Just googled it looks good stuff

Only draw back i guess is 10/15min wait for hazing.

I was actually looking at Collinite 476s  - figured its good for maybe 4 months, so reduce the labour

I was also going to try a glaze next time, was thinking Poorboys black hole.

Thanks for the info and also thanks to everyone's guidance.

I'm not a fan of Dodo waxes, also find them a bit fussy to remove. Although good on them for doing sample sizes, so at least you can try them.

So many great waxes, this is very good for the price http://www.chemicalguysuk.com/Carnauba_PASTE_WAX_Limited_Edition_5050_Paste_Wax_p/50.htm

So many to chose from though, Petes53 is also very good.

Hundreds of waxes to choose from and everyone will give you a different answer. Some nice recomendations above.

I will definitely recommend you a glaze other than Black Hole. Look at Prima Amigo. Superb on black and can be applied by hand. Black hole is the most over rated product out there in my opinion. with the two waxes that NM has recommended you will have a stunning finish.

Not used hydra wax but Bilt Hamber product some great products!

Oh, and CG 50/50 in the link that NM has put is the easiest wax to use that I have encountered. Not that durable compared to the collinites or the bilt hambers, but such a pleasure to use. And the beads are epic!

Wax is a thing of the past and a pint to apply/remove IMHO.

As an oppose to coatings that require perfectly polished and surgically clean paint that can't get wet for up to 24 hours and realistically needs to be applied indoors to let it cure etc? Not to mention costs. Are waxes really redundant?

I like coatings, they're great. But not the be all and end all, and I certainly wouldn't ram them down everyone's throats. And as the OP has specifically asked about waxes, we will answer his questions.

Totally disagree...but everyone to their own

Good job I put IMHO then eh...

I looked at Prima Amigo review on cleanyourcar, before i posted about poor boys, what put me off about Prima Amigo was this : "May be applied by hand; however, use with a random-orbit, dual action polisher and a foam pad will yield the best results"

That's the same with any glaze, you'll always get better results by machine, rather than hand application.

hmm "maybe applied by hand, how ever better if machined" - makes it sound like its crap if used by hand

poor boys review  "Poorboys Black Hole Show Glaze for dark vehicles is a wipe on, wipe off product.

Its wipe on wipe off. So you can see why im put off by one, and see the appeal in the other, unless its all nonsense?

For a wax that's easy to use go for Bilt Hamber Double Speed or for a bit more cash ArtDeShine ArtDeKotsos wax.

I've used black hole by hand and machine and it was mildly better by machine but isn't great. NM is right, unfortunately every glaze is better by machine.

Two waxes I really want to try personally. Need to use my others first as I'm in danger of becoming a wax hoarder!!

:peek:  :notme: ....come and join the club Neil!

Seriously though - I'm slowly getting through all my wax samples and then sharing/exchanging them with good friends.

So far I have found a few real cracking waxes....  which are detailed on other threads on the forum.

I still really enjoy collecting waxes and using them....just to compare and measure the different results of gloss, beading, sheeting, etc

Haha. I probably will join the club eventually Ste. I enjoy how they all have their own quirks and different properties.

For 14.95 the bilt hamber double speed wax has got winter protection written all over it. Beading is apparently epic too, and we all like a bit of beading!!!

Absolutely - we leave no stone unturned on the wax quest!!!

BH Speed Wax sounds ideal as you say - especially for winter time.

AP Intensify is the ideal summer show wax at the moment IMHO.

Just got a pre-order offer in on the ODK/Fourthwax release.... which I plan to put on SWMBO's car soon.
