1.4 TSi - 150 PS?

Featured Replies

I've just noticed the 1.4 TSi being called 150 PS. I thought it was 140 PS. Has it been upgraded recently or are they all 150?

It has been upgraded to 150ps, but it still hasn't got cylinder de-activation (A.C.T. or C.O.D.), that SEAT, Audi and VW have got.

Any idea when they uprated the engine?

I believe the engine changes are to do with emission standards.

It seems that most of the Skoda line up is affected.

I'm wondering if it is reasonably easily possible to apply the upgrade to the 140 version - might be nice to have another 10 PS, if not a major job!

Tomorrow! Seriously, it's on cars built from this week onwards. The new model year changes are introduced in week 22.

Oh well, I guess that'll be the next trade-in !!

What the emmisions on the new 150PS tune ?

Does it still split the manual and DSG over 2 different VED classes ?

On the hatch SEL spec they are both band C, DSG is 115 and the manual is 120 co2. The SE spec is slightly less.

The Leon estate with the 1.4 TSI ACT (150PS) engine is DSG 111 co2 (band C) and manual 110 co2 band B. The Leon hatch is 110 and 109 respectively so both band B.

the estate SEL is 121 CO2 and therefore band D :(

Hmmm. So slightly more power with slightly less emmisions, the estate might have an issue that'll hurt sales but, I kinda figure petrols are going to be way cheaper than diesel when the Government finally has its knee jerk reaction to the environentalist.  Never know a form of tax that wasn't built off bad logic, which will make this engine the mainstay of the petrol rush sales.

I wouldn't mind giving it a road test, if only to see how it compares with the 140

Can't see the extra 10ps making much difference in the real world, torque's the same for the DSG and 0-62 has changed from 8.3 to 8.2 for the estate.

Cars are supposed to be getting cleaner, my EU5 DSG 115, EU6 117 co2?

I wouldn't have thought it makes any real difference given that many believe that the vw engines usually put out more power than official specs say. Chances are if you're running on 99 Ron petrol like myself then you're likely to be around that kind of power figure anyway. It's a shame that when manufacturers increase an engines power after a couple of years they don't call us early adopters in for a remap, like updating firmware on a smartphone. I'll most likely get mine remapped in a years time after my warranty ends.

Is it just the remap of the electronics that makes that difference then?

10ps is a very small difference if its only felt at peak rpm, but if it coincides with a wider torque curve and more top-end (especially beyond peak power) then it could feel much faster, even if it really isn't.

Also, CO² is not the only pollutant that comes out of your tailpipe. I don't know specifics, but I imagine Eur6 regs target other reductions, including particulates, NOx, and CO. CO² is more closely related to fuel consumption than to emissions.

Just heard back from Skoda UK confirming that the 150 is a fully different engine and there is no particular easy adjustment to make the 140PS into the 150

I wouldn't have thought they would have a new engine just for a gain in 10bhp. After all the 140 was supposed to be a different engine from the 122. Doesn't make sense for a manufacture to make an engine for just a couple of years then build a totally new one. They always start off with a lower power figure then over time make a few changes and remap the engine to a higher power. Also the people who told you are the same people who insisted my yeti steel wheels would never fit on my mk3 octavia which they do perfectly. My opinion is skoda don't want people badgering them about a power increase to bring the engine up to date. Anyway company's like shark could remap the 1.4 to just under 180 bhp. That's tempting.

I do wonder if the 1.4 140 and 150 in the Octavia is the 1.4 ACT engine running different software/map.

Edit just realised VW off a 1.4 without ACT in the Golf so it's not the same engine.

The engine basics are likely the same, but the switch to Euro6 surely takes more than a tune.

I think the 150 TSi engine is much thensame EA211 unit just without the ACT/COD hardware.

Not sure if there is any hardware changes or just the map but the extra 10ps is probably some compensation for the engine being fettled (and probably would have been made less lively) to EU6 compliance.

The guy from my local dealerships service department told me the new 1.4 tsi is 150bhp, plus it has cylinder deactivation. I didn't think skoda was getting that.

It isnt the ACT/COD version.

They usually know as much as the old guy in the flat cap and cardigan looking at the cheapest Fabia.

Right then...............

VAG have both ACT & non-ACT in the 150PS 1.4....................I did a bit of research when I got my MK7 Golf estate as it is 140ps non-ACT & the hatch & SV were the 150ps ACT at the time.............

150ps & 140 ps with or without ACT are the same engine, just ACT head or not & different EU emissions software (5 or 6)...................I have the general tech files on the engines & it is only mapping if comparing a 140 non ACT with a 150 non-act...........

Run on Nitro & you will be fine & TBH I recon after a few miles they will be the same...............within a couple of PS...........
