Economy Remap... Is there one?

So there are many tpes of remaps giving varying degrees of power hike, but is there one that gives signifcant improvements in economy?

I may be interested in getting it done at some point but i bought the car for the mpg savings in the first place and i'd hate to see this decline.

Can any one shed some light on this?

We have done many Custom-Code Phase 1`s and many of them are reporting quite a good increase with the mpg.

Josh is the one who could give you more insite to this.

He has had some wonderful reviews on this forum with his remap.

Insurance dont bother, find a freindly garage person and get the car towed to your house. Heeeee

And when you crash into another car, or hit a pedestrian what will you do?

Not worth the risk full stop! If you can't afford the insurance, then you can't afford the mod ... simple as!

Police will only check on the safety side of the vehicle such brakes, chassis, tyre pressures etc. They will only look at mods if they think they have affected these systems.

Why would police care what power your car puts out? They will investigate ANY vehicle involved in an incident from a smart car to an 18 wheel truck, power output is irrelevant.

What the INSURANCE people do once they have the vehicle back at their garages is another matter entirely.

Insurance will check everything so they dont have to pay out

If you get hit by an uninsured driver the insurance won't pay for any damage to you which means you have to charge the individual which hit you to pay for the damage to you, your livelyhood, your children if they are in the car, any emotional damage caused (i.e. seeing your childs legs crushed) and in the vast majority of cases the people without insurance are the ones with no money...

Surely they have more money as they're not giving it all to the insurance companies? :confused:

3rd parties claims will still be paid if you have mods that aren't declared. However I still agree that any mods should be declared.

Insurers can only refuse to pay out to you not 3rd parties, same applies for drink driving.

It may be the case though that the insurer can then claim any costs back from the insured.

And since they will usually fail to get it, we all have to pay the costs by higher premiums.

Not quite: Insurance is a business. I can quite believe they'd spend a lot of time investigating a crashed Ferrari or a newer car. Though if people are injured or die, the potential payout/loss if higher.

At some point the expense of the investigation means it isn't cost effective.

...though if I was an insurance company, I'd consider investigating a sample of cases...

The OEM map has to take into consideration emissions, poor fuel quality and poor servicing. Those paying for a remap usually look after thier car with quality fuel and maintenance hence a remap can take full advantage of this.

There is also the fact that upping the power can allow you to drive in a higher gear which will help fuel economy..........

With Custom Code we can add an extra pure economy file at an additional cost, the power is up over standard but not the full "hit"

Saying that we are seeing good MPG on the normal C-C re-maps :)

We re-map HGV's and we are getting a 20% saving on fuel on one of our Volvo 32 Tonne trucks. With a +60 bhp file :)

The cost of hooking up the old ecu from any damaged car to a computer to read the memory will be minimal, as they most likely will already have the equipment to do this. In some cases the evidence of a remap will be all to easy to see as the ecu seal will have been broken to install the chip, unless the car was mapped through the OBD port.

Been looking back on old re-map threads and it seems economy stays pretty much the same if not better in some circumstances. My question is now time has passed by on many people with re-maps on here, has the car suffered any noticable deteriation in original re-map performance and why is this? I have been looking at either the custom code or amd, but I am not yet convinced they are relible for engine longevity and all that! Does anybody want to share their theories on this? I know it will place extra strain on drivetrain components such as clutches etc. , but there does seem to be a few gripes about shaking boxes and interiors loosening and worst of all after a period of time a dip in performance from when it was originally done? Puzzling?

I think if I was going to get one done it would have to be a light remap to only perhaps take it to 160 bhp which hopefully would be somewhere in between standard and touching the peak of tolerances.

Mind you I keep thinking back to my scoob and there it was always posted about large power gains in excess of 50/100 bhp with no chat of unreliability.

So why not on a Fabia???
