Wheel Alignment, RARB, WALK - Correct order?

Featured Replies

I am in the process of having two new rear tyres fitted today as the others are suffering the usual saw toothing!

Really want this sorted so I plan to take the car to Wheels in Motion in Chesham but I also plan to fit a Whiteline anti-roll bar and anti-lift kit soon but unsure when at the minute.

Am I correct in thinking the best order would be to install the RARB & WALK then get the alignment sorted?

I might be wrong but I would think an anti roll bar would have no affect on alignment at all. :)

Not really knowing what an anti-lift kit is, I can't comment on that.  Are the rear wheels fairly adjustable on the mk2 Octy?  I know on the mk1 it's a fixed rear beam so there is no camber/tracking adjustment possible without shims or something.

Don't have a clue mate, I am far from technically minded!

Why don;t you call WiM and then let us know what they say?

Walk then alignment

Do the WALK ASAP then the alignment.

I'm not sure why you'd bother with the WALK though - alloy lower arms with S3 non-voided bushes are better IMO.

RARB has no effect on alignment.

Rear wheels total adjustment , having the rear adjusted can affect the front settings ,so I've been told

That's mechanically impossible.

That's why I have been told at each of the places I've used.

Explain how.

don't know how, just repeating what hunter technician told me and what i saw happen on the machines monitor.

I have just had a reply to my email to Wheels in Motion and yes, the rear is adjustable too.

Quote ' your car has adjustable front and rear toe. Rear camber and an optimised front sub-frame camber adjustment.

Hope this helps

that would have been the thrust angle changing rather than a change to an actual setting.

Changing the camber or the toe at the rear will have no effect on the caster, camber or toe at the front.

As a rule of thumb, do the tyre pressures, set up the rear camber, then the rear toe - this gets the thrust angle correct, then the front caster, then front camber, then front toe.
