Front proximity sensors

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have an Elegance with the front and rear sensors.

I notice that the front sensors only work if you have already engaged reverse, or if you have pressed the switch beside gear change.

I would like them always on, much handier if you are driving forward into a parking space.

Had a look in manual but couldn't find any way of permanently having them on.

Cheers..

You can't do. They disengage automatically at 15kph and above as well.

Simply press the button before driving into the space?

Thanks for quick reply, thats what I thought.

Just have to remember to press button..

Front sensors on permanently would annoy the hell out of you. They'll be going off all the time in heavy rain, and on country roads when the grass verges are long...

Yep, never thought of that

I have experience of a VW Touareg with front sensors always on.

They basically deactivate once you go over a certain speed then activate again when you drop below that.

So while driving along they're off but once you come to a crawl in traffic or while parking they automatically activate.

Very handy.

They are the one thing that I'd like to retro-fit to my car. Front sensors. Make parking front-in so much easier...

The New Passat has auto activation of front sensors....yes, it will be very handy. So, you can expect this feature in S3

My old Citroen C5 had them auto activate at low speeds and they saved me a few times in traffic or when pulling into a parking bay forwards with a bollard in front on you - personally would vote for them to be on all the time via auto activation. Wonder if Superb III has them on all the time or if that function is now configurable via VCDs or MFD ?

New Passat has it so I will be quite disappointed if SIII doesn't have it....time will tell

In slow traffic auto activating sensors would annoy the hell out of me, you would have to keep quiet a gap to the car in front to avoid the things constantly beeping.

I've never had the need to require the front sensors when parking in a conventional space, I always reverse into them to aid quick and easy departure. I only find them handy when parallel parking. In the latter scenario, since I always start with a reverse, the sensors are already active when it comes to the forward.

So you would agree it would be nice to have a user selectable option

I would prefer they were automatically on under a very slow speed. It would be very rare that I would be in slow moving traffic so close to activate the sensors.

I suppose I will soon get used to the long nose

Perhaps I need to clarify my earlier statement about use in traffic - When I had my C5 I had a few occasion when the car in front of me rolled back towards me and I was able to hit horn to wake driver in front up - it was not me tail gating !!
