Terraclean huge problems ! Monte Carlo tdi

Hi guys any of you had issues with terraclean ? Car has been running fine but after reading all the great reviews thought I would give my engine a treat. Take the car for a spin yesterday about an hour after treatment and the thing died. First coil lights on then engine lights then limp mode. Then totally died had to be towed would turn over but not start tiwed by the AA to my local garage. Codes read at roadside as low fuel pressure. P****d off ain't the word . terraclean came this morning and said it was nothing to do with the treatment, yet car was fine yesterday ! Car is stuck in garage now just hope I ain't gonna have a huge bill ! Any thoughts on possible cause ? I would definitely not recommend. Thanks

Oh dear that doesn't sound good! Hope you get it sorted.

Is the car still in warranty?

Not sure there is much point in using these cleaning products on a newish car as not much in the way of deposits will have built up

Uh oh indeed!

 

Basically they bypass the cars fuel, and run the thing off some magic formula that is apparently meant to clean and de-clog the engine. Gaining economy and performance.

 

If you have low fuel pressure, it could be something that they did when returning the car to standard?...

when i took over a large vauxhall franchise as the aftersales manager a few years ago  i was horrified to learn they had been upselling engine flushes on all cars even high mileage vehicles that had never been flushed for 8+years 

 

i got into major **** with my divisional bosses but it stopped pretty much over night 

 

pretty much the same with fuel cleaners they used to try and make us sell that at mot time to so called help with the emmissions test 

 

back in the gold old days i used a cheap oil in the engine on tickover for half hour  to get warm and then drain that and fill with the proper stuff 

 

 

never trusted these so called wonder cleaners

After getting mine Terracleaned a few weeks ago, and after reading this I'm now a little nervous :L

Due for a service fairly soon, so hopefully fresh oil and filters will help keep everything running well. All seems fine at the moment anyway.

nope

Engine flushing is adding an additive to the engine oil just prior to carrying out an oil change.  It's supposed to help remove sludge & clean out oil galleries.  If your oil is starting to sludge I'd recomend less short trips & more frequent oil changes

Uuummm, I remain sceptical of these sort of treatments.

There are plenty enough cleaning additives to the fuel and the engines have filters etc.

Provided you get a regular service a diesel engine properly warmed up and driven normally will last easily 200k miles without any other treatments, which is probably way longer than most of us will own a modern vehicle as first or second owners (excluding taxi drivers etc). I wouldn't even contemplate any additives or specialist treatments to any modern engine.

Hope the OP gets it sorted.

We had low pressure on our van at work was simply a clogged up fuel filter, let's hope it is something simple like that. The terraclean chap may have disturbed something on the high pressure rail?

Was thinking about getting mine done they do a dpf treatment too, Dont think ill other now tho!

 

Keep all receipts for the repairs and take him to small claims court, Depending on what the garage find hope it gets fixed

Hi folks. I used to be on another big deisel club forum stdrivers and most peolpe on their don't rate it. Mainly because they keep their cars serviced with proper parts, oils etc. long runs and or regular italian tune up. However, they would also point out that it's the cars that are not looked after that may.....get a something from the Tclean but do run the risk of crap going into place they should not.

But generally we're talking about older cars on the other forum too..

I agree that diesels in particular should run and run but mostly used in the correct way. If your intending on keeping your car for many miles then I would and will use high grade cleaners/additives from a specialist supplier once a year. As been mentioned on this club, BG cleaners are a good starter for problem solving.

More recent car should not need anything unless not driven correctly and a problem occur.

At some point, all modern vehicles are going to suffer with excessive carbon build up. There's no getting away from that now. 

 

So, eventually the inlet system may require some form of cleaning. But do it right. Remove and clean parts. If you do it in Situ you run the risk of further damage.

 

The same to be said with the fuel system. If you run a terraclean fuel treatment, it will only last the time it takes for the tank of fuel to empty.

 

Certain additives are extremely good and can be used safely. Used regularly these can reduce carbon build up/fuel blockages.

I found on the internet some time ago, via a VAG forum, that VAG do have their own version of this inlet tract cleaning stuff to sort out issues with coking up on the direct injection petrol engines. I did enquire about Terraclean and found a local place that does that treatment, but that was as far as I got - it was for wife's old Polo 1.4 16V - but time has run out on that idea!

"TerrorClean" - you rock up in your nice expensive motor. Spotty bespectacled 'technician' gives you the once over, unzips his hose and pumps her full of his special juice..... She's never gonna be the same again....... ;-)
