Aircon?

Recommended Posts

Had my Fabia almost a year and the Aircon has never worked. The button lights up but nobody is home :(

Does it need a re-gas or does it need new parts? Could it need new pipes?

Defo need it sorting I was sweating like a Fatmans crack today and having window open didn't help that much :/

While it might need regassing, I believe you probably have a hardware fault.

My compressor failed a few years back - easy way to check if the compressor has failed is to see if the plastic/rubber part (item 1 in image) on the pulley wheel rotates freely independently of the pulley wheel, if it does then you need a new compressor.

Nice one brother I will check that tomorrow :) can't seem there being an faults as the cat come with full service history all done at a skoda specialist but havnt had a look yet to see if any Aircon work had been done :)

If it's never had any attention (which is entirely possible as it's probably not on any service schedule) then you probably just need a good wodge of refrigerant put in there.

I had my 53-plate Polo done on Monday, and it was down to 50g of refrigerant from a factory fill of 550g, no wonder it wasn't doing much.

10% leakage per year is quoted as being normal, so any of similar age that haven't ever been re-gassed will be lucky to be working at all.

If you to go to somewhere like ATS or Kwikfit they can leak test it and regas the system for you. If it doesn't work, you won't have to pay.

The system should be checked and re-gassed (when necessary) every 2 years. Most people neglect to do this.

If you're lucky there's no damage.

After posting last week that mine was working, took her for a full service including aircon and it's not working at all.

Had the oil(?) replaced and everything and still no join. Might just take the lot out as I guess it could be expensive to fix :p

So many "cheap" aircon services nowadays....could be a false economy ? Got a very good one down the road from us, yes they charge circa £50 but have a very nice workshop, very friendly and knowledgeable also

( able to explain the exact status of your aircon which mr apprentice button pusher hasn't a clue about and probably fix the aircon better than anyone )

I left mine too long but it was a wee noisy thats all. Went away with air con full service, and I plan to do this a bit more often now. Definitely trust to take the place again and happy to do that again next time.

If it runs out of oil in the refrigerant can lead to wear itself so just neglecting the aircon can be a false economy. Although poorly servicing it could be a false economy too.

A happy ending :)

Not quite :(

drove 50 miles on motorway 9am this morning and sun was already blazing aircon on and i was nice and cool. Parked up for 2 hours come back got in car and no aircon??? WTF!!  drove 50 miles home windows open and sweating like mad. Had a think checked everything over and realised the aircon came on for a few seconds then right off and blowing warm air again so had a quick read up and somebody mentioned the Evap sensor? well it was worth a try. Went scrap yard 5 mins away that specialise in german cars and low and behold in the bottom of the yard a load of Fabias :) quick tug on the dashboard and managed to get my arm right up behind the middle air vents unplugged the sensor wire and pulled the sensor out :) swapped it over and have had nice cool air for the rest of the hot day and total cost was £5 :)

Just had a good read through this guide. Thanks for the link

Just waiting for my old Windows laptop to do it's updates as it's not been used in over twelve months, will hook up my VCDS cable and check for any fault codes first as this process looks like it may take me a while :giggle:

Only took me 15 mins :) then about 5 to put new one in and replace everything :) hardest part was finding the damn thing but once you know where it is it you just unplug the cable and the sensor pulls out with ease :)
