Headlight warning beeper

Featured Replies

Hi,

I own a fabia mk1, 1.4 classic. My knowledge on car mechanism is next to null. So could someone help me on this please

The headlight warning beepers dont work, so I  bought one of those light reminders off ebay, as I have already damaged a battery and had to replace it. The ebay seller said it was easy to fix but when I got it I can't make head or tail of it. All i understood is that the beeper needs to be connected to the fuse box. I have attached the diagram that came with the beeper. Could some one tell me which fuse do I need to connect the beeper to?

Many thanks,

Do you mean when your lights are on and you open the drivers door- there's no warning sound??

If that's the case, have you checked/looked into the door microswitch? As they are really common to break and would cause the problem you're having.

Thanks Freedom, You are right. There is no warning sound when I open the drivers door.  I will check the microswtich as you suggested.  Gonna google where to find that on the door  :)

Many thanks once again.

Think many VAG cars from 1997ish to 2005ish have similar problems - for instance, on Passat B5 and B5.5 - it's to do with the soldering on the PCB that that microswitch is on.  Soldering just needs a dab to reconnect it. On the Passat it's a bit of pig of job to get to the PCB in door - if you're not frequently doing that kind of work - just takes time. And is a bit fiddly in places. Here's one guys how-to for a B5 Passat. It'll be quite similar - and there's likely some Fabia 1 versions of this "how-to" out there too. Maybe on Youtube. Here's the Passat one : http://www.taligentx.com/passat/maintenance/doorlockmechanism/  One of the other effects of the problem, is that the doors autolock after opening with the remote - even though the door may still be open - because car doesn't know you've opened door, to cancel the autolock.

The microswitch is fitted to the drivers door lock unit inside the door. The switch is not available separately but a similar switch can be found and fitted if you have the skill. However, since you said in your original post that you know very little about cars it could be beyond your scope as it's not straightforward. Only other option is to fit a new or used lock mechanism. I would not fit a used one myself as the issue is so common that the switch on a used one will probably be knackered or heading that way too.
