Collecting New Cars from Skoda Dealerships. Autolock Function etc.

Featured Replies

There are so many new options on cars in 2015, and items that are fitted and can be enabled or disabled or just changed but require being done by a Technician.

Surely the Dealerships should have a Spec list on the Model they are supplying and handing over and doing a PDI on.

They should not just arrange the Selling, Financing and hand over date, but maybe ask or send an Email

or Snail Mail list to the buyer asking,

'What function do you want enabled or disabled as the car has arrived at us.?'

Done Free at time of Delivery or at the first service if not sooner once you know what you require.

(After all you are buying and paying for every function your chosen model has as standard.)

eg

Autolock, Needle Sweep, Variable or Fixed Service Indication, Cornering DRL's, Coming Home Lights etc etc

Not rocket science really and something buyers of new cars should maybe talk about with Salespeople, Sales Managers, Work Shop Managers and Dealer Principals,

Maybe also with Skoda UK Customer Services Mangers and the Skoda UK Brand Director Alasdair Stewart.

Autolock is a function that was missed by factory however it should be on certain cars (including mine) however the dealers aren't aware this is being missed.

Dealers or staff or staff at dealerships you have talked to.?

'They'

are very well aware in many cases, after all this is their job, open at least 50 weeks a year,  6 or 7 days a week selling and

supplying cars, new and used.

If they do not know now it is because they were trained by Skoda & are called Tommy.

ie

Deaf Dumb & Blind.

or maybe just stupid and uninterested in Customer Service.

Going to be collecting the wife's new fabia fairly soon hopefully and I was just wondering what should and shouldn't be being enabled by the dealer prior to us collecting the vehicle?

For instance, the auto locking feature, my wife would quite like this to be available. Along with other things mentioned above, needle sweep or cornering drls.

Do some things have to be pre specced from factory or are they all available to be activated/deactivated?

Regards

Talk with the Salesperson you are dealing with, and if they are clueless ask to talk with one with knowledge of the product,

and maybe talk with the Workshop Manager or Technician if necessary while the Salesperson is present.

Ask what can be enabled at the PDI or before the hand over, and which functions you want doing.

It is a new car, and you are paying for it, they are selling you what you want.

Have the Salesperson write up on the Order which functions you want enabled if they do not already arrive from the Factory Functioning as you want.

When I picked my car up in April, the Autolock hadn't been enabled, however it only took the Technician 2 mins with his laptop and it now activates at 10 mph.

The car is getting Plugged in at the PDI anyway, and the Transit & Service Mileage and any other changes made.

So a check list doing before the car is even at the Dealers or Registered means you should not need a Technician coming out at the car at the Hand Over making changes that can be all done ready.

Skoda like 'Simply Clever', then it is easy for Skoda Dealership to use the brains they were born with and think 'Customer Service',

and it costs nothing extra to the Dealership or the Customer. All part of the New Car Experience!

I think that you are making a very valid point here, from what I can make out, marques like Citroen allow the user to make a few of these changes via the MMI thing. I'm guessing this will be down to the individual VAG-UK marque importers to decide what the owner gets in their own sales territory, for any thing else, they can just do without!  This is one of the "problems" we now face with the exchanging of information via forums etc.  I seem to remember that brake wear warning and low windscreen washer warning were not programmed in on my Passat when I imported it via Holland back in 2000, this could back up what I said earlier in this posting as that car did not ever get the "UK spec" indentification on it as that is not VAG's way, it was an "NL spec" car with any "UK" bits added as far as hardware during build in the factory.

As an aside, when I challenged my local VW dealer about this (back in early 2001), - I only discovered the low washer fluid warning was missing when it ran out in winter on a long run, - my VW dealer said that because it was an import, the only way to sort that out would be to order in and fit a correctly programmed dashpod with me paying!  I just bought VAG-COM and sorted it in seconds.

Cheers, I'll give that a try and see where it gets me.

Good to know it shouldn't be a problem then. Cheers.

Guys, on the back on this post my car should be getting pdi'd in the next day or two.

What features shall I ask them to program? I really don't know what's possible!

autolock/unlock and audible beep on lock/unlock were the features I had the dealers code for me

More is possible but i'd get it done via VCDS :)

Is there a definitive, or at least reasonably comprehensive, list of possibilities available? Would be much appreciated, by more than just me.

Thanks in advance...hopefully.

It seems to be strange that Audi and Seat program auto-lock by default, but it sounds like Skoda and from experience VW do not, and further to that, as there is no auto-lock option in the menu in UK cars, VW techs are said not to know how to enable that option in the menu, which I find very annoying as that function is mentioned in the current Polo owner's manual!

AFAK many of the functions above, including autolock, can be set on screen. I enabled the autolock myself; or maybe I disabled and enabled again just because, dont remember.

For what purpose would you have the needle sweep? My motorcycle does it and I have no idea why.

Some of the options are classed as factory options which incours a cost.

Different I know but on my Octavia MKIII Vrs " High beam assist " is a Factory option costing over £300. mine was turned on for a bottle of red.

on the Fabia MKIII cornering fogs are a cost option £240 again turned on via VCDS for free ( or beer tokens )

Can't see turning on cost options by the dealer is going to happen

Most things just need turning on

So does the same thing apply for the Hill Hold option?

So does the same thing apply for the Hill Hold option?

Don't honestly know, think Hill hold needs a different ABS set up

Disclaimer :-  I dont really know

In the dealership when I ordered my vrs and had finished talking with salesman a woman came over and asked me what I would like pre programmed! Got the options for auto lock and open all doors with one or two presses of key fob
