Rear brake drum Fabia MK1

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've finally got the brake drum off rear brakes my Fabia Mk1 - Note to self: Release handbrake before attempting to remove drum.

Worryingly some bits fell out when I got the drum off - Here's an image - also I don't know how much the pads have left in them so any advice greatly received.

Thank you!

Gerard

There is already a thread on how to strip, clean and inspect Fabia rear drums.

The parts you have are self explanatary if you look at the same parts on the other shoe that is located in position.

The brake cylinder is leaking and needs replacing.

The Brake shoes look fairly new and hardly used.

There's another spring that's damaged and come adrift by the looks of it too. Compare the nearer of the two horizontal springs just above the 'spreader plate' in the ninth image of this thread (the one Tech1e is referring to), with the equivalent one on yours.  Yours has been stretched/abused somehow.

Before buying replacement slave brake cylinder, I suggest you inspect the drivers side rear brake drum for the same problem?

If brake linings too contaminated with brake fluid, suggest replace them..

I linked you to it in post #4.

I was going to ask the same farnhamg as servicing the drums was going to be my next job (god help you all). This site and the people on it are an amazing resource and thanks again Wino for the helpful comments and link, will dismantle and check my drums in the coming weeks...

Cheers
