What did you do to your bike today?

Featured Replies

It's supposed to be a very good bike if you believe the journos. I liked my R1150R a lot so a modern version of that with an extra 30ish HP should be good fun. Let us know what it's like to live with once you've clocked a few miles up.

I had an R1150R and didn't get on with it at all. The 1200R K53 is a completely different beast.

Get a test ride!

  • Put the wet weather kit on and went and did my Advanced Test.... and passed

  • You're right, I've just undone one and the lip on the pipe extrudes out of the block so it's pressing against that.

  • Finished! That's 2016 done.

Sounds nice. They certainly look good!

Is that with the liquid cooled engine then, or the twincam air cooled one?

Liquid cooled, with "traditional" upside down forks.

In the mean time, here's the RT, ready for next week

Well to help keep mine clean or to make cleaning easier I fitted a Pyramid Hugger and Fender Extender.  Also fitted some brackets to make the screen adjustable up and down with a GPS bracket.  Just got to get out on the thing now!  Today maybe.

:-)

My R65RS is '81 vintage so probably a similar vintage to his R45.

Back on topic (sort of) today I've ordered a Givi top box mount for the new bike and had it sent to the wrong address. In Italy. Hmmm...

As I don't seem to be able to delete the posts that I messed up from my mobile, let's see if I can post something marginally more interesting instead.

I decided on Friday for the bike handover day and arranged the insurance.

Friday duly arrived and summer duly departed.

The 80 mile round trip to collect the new bike is probably the wettest I've been in ages, and my up-to-now-pretty-waterproof Hein Gericke gear completely gave in to the rain. Soaked through.

Not sure what, if anything, I can do to reintroduce a little water resistance to it, but having spent lots on the new bike there's no spare cash in the kitty for new gear

Key thing I've done today is emailed the dealer to point out the issues with the new bike :-(

Quickshifter doesn't quickshift & centre stand is missing.

I suspect both are resolvable fairly simply, but it's annoying that I need to.

  • 2 weeks later...

Took it for 1 last ride through the Peak district before handing it over to its new owner.

Took the tax disk holder off the front wheel was doing my nut in :D

The powers that be never considered the aftermarket tax disc holder industry when they introduced the new tax rules, lol. There must be bike shops all over the country looking at their stock and wondering wtf to do with them now...

Nothing, but I've gotta get up in 4 hours to ride to work on it, my plan is to ride out my street on tick over to attempt to wake as few people as possible. :D

I know that problem haha.

I usually come in late though. I try to kill the ignition before i turn onto my road. Then roll all the way down haha.

Well yesterday I spent a bit of time on the Tiger Explorer taking bolts out f it copper greasing them and putting them back in.  This was after I had one on the front forks the other week that would not come out no matter what I tried.  Some of them came out fairly easily because I had them out before and put oil on them when I put them back as I didn't have any copper grease then.  The others came out with varying degrees of difficulty and were cleaned up greased put in took out an put in again to make sure the threads look nice and slippery!

I cannot believe the state of some of the fixings on this thing and am putting it down to the factory build rather than maintenance since then as most of the bolts would not have been removed since then.  Oh and before I finished I loosened the exhaust bolts and clamp ready for when my new exhaust comes today so that fitting it can be easy rather than a battle.

No riding today as I am busy decorating which I hate but if the exhaust arrives it will be put on and then of course it will have to have a test ride to make sure everything is ok. :D

Finally got my shock top mount and suspension linkage side plates back from the electroplaters, after six weeks (was told it would be 7-10 days...).

Took it for a spin.

Noticed an Aprillia RSV4 rider taking a triple take on his mirrors, as he got caught up by a vfr with panniers on.

Started overtaking in silly places aftef that, so i left him to it.

Dug the k13 out to add a psi or so to the tyres only to find a whopping great nail in the month old rear boot. Pulled it out to the loudest hiss !! Bloody typical. Was planning a clean and a blast out this arvo. Not happy that's puncture no 2 in just over a year.

Could I find a tyre dealer open today to repair it ? Could have found hens teeth quicker.

Back in the car for the commute then. Bah humbug.

Nothing :( NEED TO GET OUT ON IT !

2 punctures in the same model of tyre?

My dad used to get punctures quite often on his old BMW.

Changed tyres and didnt have a problem. Must of been the tread pattern picking stuff up?

I would say there will be plenty other days.

But its the UK

so expect snow tomorrow :D

Nothing wrong with Metzelers. Yes, they used to make some **** tyres in the nineties, but so did every manufacturer. Currently they make the best sports orientated road tyre, as excellent track day and sports touring rubber. They're the same company as Pirelli, after all.
