  • Put the wet weather kit on and went and did my Advanced Test.... and passed

  • You're right, I've just undone one and the lip on the pipe extrudes out of the block so it's pressing against that.

  • Finished! That's 2016 done.

Just home after getting a new rear hoop fitted 1000 miles into a brand new tyre and it was junked because the nail went in at such a shallow angle. Bedding in time again bring it on.

Nothing to the bike because the weathers horrendous.

But i did pop down to a shop in Ilkstone whilst i was out to see what they were like, and to book the VFR in with them to have the alarm removed. I thought they might aswel do it, seems as they put it in all those years ago.

2 hours work he reckons and £100. I hope it all goes to plan...

Not much but when I saw the old exhaust in the shed I realised I hadn't took the heat shield off and out it in the new exhaust.  So out with the tools and as usual for Triumph one bolt came out easy and the other was seized and I have had to butcher it in an attempt to get it off.  In the end I had to cold chisel the shield off the exhaust so I can get at the captive nut at the back which is now turning.  Still not got the bolt off so left it for tonight so I don't lose my temper.

Just looked how much a new heat shield is £43.92 plus over £3 for the bolts!  Oh and I think there is VAT and delivery on top of that. Well they can chuff off and that bolt is coming out tomorrow come hell or high water.

That's rather gutting, given the stupid prices of tyres these days.

Yup £156 for a new angel gt. Makes you feel sick.

Popped into the Triumph dealer to buy some bits for the Tiger that I've just sold.

Real pain when you're ebaying accessories to discover that you left something bolted to the bike that should have removed :-(

How much ? You'll definitely get that bolt out at that price !!!

Ridiculous. You could get a pair for that five years ago.

Ouch - did you check tyreleader.co.uk? Pirelli Angel GT 180/55 ZR17 - £99.19 delivered.

And don't the manufacturers know it.

Then you have to get it fitted. Some places won't fit tyres you've not bought from them, and others will charge like a rhino with a hard on (understandably).

They also have it listed at £104.89. Presumably one is a model specific fitment, but there's no information in the descriptions.

My local bike place charges a tenner to fit/balance if you take in a loose wheel.

I can imagine anyone charging £57 to fit a tyre

Depends. He didn't say if his price was loose wheel, or ride in, ride out. If you take a tyre to a dealer and ask them to fit it to the bike I doubt you'd see much change from that.

And (if it's a tyre place, rather than a general workshop) how long will they still be there to do that for you, if everyone buys their tyres online and then asks them to fit them ...

I know if I had a tyre business and somebody brought their Internet purchase to me for fitting, for the sake of ten quid, I'd tell 'em to sod off and fit it themself.

General non-main-dealer bike workshop.

Because he does a great job & doesn't take the mickey on prices he's always busy and I get all my servicing repairs done there.

Understandable from his point of view then. It's only a tenner in his pocket, but only a few minutes work, and worth it for the repeat custom. He probably doesn't sell many tyres himself, margins are that small that you can't possibly compete on price if you don't buy in large quantities.

I remember my colleague in my previous job paying stupid money for a ride in, ride out pair fitting at his local main Yamaha dealer. Madness.

As far as I can tell, he charges customers what he pays for parts and just charges labour.

Recently he's done the 12k mile service & a fork seal on my Tiger, and fixed the leak inside the bevel drive & replaced the brake shoes and pads on the old R80.

Tim Hyett at Motovation in Cheltenham if you're interested.

Bit far for me, but I do my own spannering. Good to find someone like that though, I have a local guy like that for car stuff - he includes the parts supply invoice with your bill, so you can see he's only charged what the parts cost him, plus labour.

This was to a loose wheel. 190 55 17 A spec.

That does seem pricey then. £135 fitted to loose wheel at my usual place.
