What did you do to your bike today?

Featured Replies

well.... i tried to fit my new M bars and Bar end mirrors from Norman Hyde to my T100, simple enough job except the bar end was threaded and resulted in having to try and drill it out..

only to realise id bought 3/8" bar mirrors and not 1"...

  • Put the wet weather kit on and went and did my Advanced Test.... and passed

  • You're right, I've just undone one and the lip on the pipe extrudes out of the block so it's pressing against that.

  • Finished! That's 2016 done.

Fitted a GB sticker to it and hid a spare bulb kit somewhere easy to get at.

Tomorrow I'll mostly be loading it up with luggage, ready for a 03.30 start to it's first trip to France. :)

Not directly for the bike but more so for use with the bike. I bought some Shure SE215 sound isolating in ear earphones.

All I can say is that they are very very good and even without any music on they are better than most ear plugs I've got.

The sound is fantastic & they are not cheap but as with everything else in life, you get what you pay for

I always use ear plugs and last year bought some stuff that you mould into your ear to make your own.  Can't remember their name but it was off Amazon or Fleabay.  As they are moulded to your own ear they cut out most of the noise but crucially you can still hear what is going on around you and I can still hear my wife in the intercom or the phone if it rings neither of which are crucial!

On the bike front I WAS going to fit a radiator guard to the Tiger but the company sent me one for a Yamaha YZR125 instead FFS!!!!  I am waiting for them to send another and also waiting for a horn to replace the rusty one that sounds more like a baby mouse than a roaring tiger.  As the sun it out I may even ride it today.

Will there ever be a sunny day when im not busy?

Seems like ages since ive ridden the bike

Im getting withdrawal symptoms :(.

Edited by fabiamk2SE

Not surprised ! Much nicer now its cooled down a smidge, great for running the new tyres in !

Well the horn has been fitted and I am not sure it is louder just shriller.  At least it isn't rusty!  Does anyone know if there is any reason why you can't have both fitted?  Obviously I would have to adapt the wiring but I can't see the volts or amps being too much for the fuse but I don't actually know.

Hmm not sure tbh mate.

Its not like a horn is using high current draw for long periods of time though. Only used for short blasts?

Following a car out of town earlier when a loon on an sv650s came behind.

NSL sign appears and a long straight. He takes his chance and overtakes us both.

Thought id see just how much faster the viffer is.. As i had exactly the same bike before it, it was interesting haha

Quite abit faster. Soon past.

I liked to think of it as a technical experiment lol.

took my YBR for its re-test today, clean bill of health (as expected)

Got a bit carried away cleaning

I see the Supervisor is busy in the background. :D   "You've missed a bit".

My kind of cleaning....good work fella !

Going to get an early start cleaning mine on Sunday after the wife goes to work..

Find it very therapeutic. ...The wife working just to clarify...

Outstanding work and dedication to such an experiment !!!

Thankyou.

I felt quite proud of myself.

Bit of a buzz isnt it haha.

I broke part of it fixing another part   :wall:  Who needs indicators dipped/high beam switch, high beam flasher, a horn or control of a manual choke anyway?  :x

Following that I took the bike to work having first repaired / made safe the stupid issue I had and then it seems 2 fairing bolts are point blanc missing WTVF? 2 cable ties had to be used! Then having parked it in front of work chained up, some chimp decided to knock off the front left indicator..... This was discovered upon leaving when it was just starting to rain. I then having put it back in (for now) set off for home on nice greasy roads with a significant amount if diesel / oil spilt along it for a good 20 miles of the commute. Helmet decided to steam up and was a loose loose situation, I needed better visibility to avoid the big feck off spreading bloobs of diesel, but if I opened visor even 1 click I had water straight in my eyes bahhhhh. End result a lot of sliding around and even at 50mph in 6th the back wheel kept spinning up just tootling along. Regardless it was great to get out on 2 wheels again :)

Went for a ride.

Stopped off at a mcdonalds for a coffee. Stood in the carpark and a mate turned up on his R6. He'd only passed his test today so it was quite a surprise. He came in with his mate, who ive never met before, riding an S reg fireblade.

After a natter we decided to head back to buxton over the well known cat and fiddle. I said to a mate im not interested in racing and ill just chill with him.

The guy on the fireblade buggered off as expected after hearing the 'hes such a good fast rider' speech when we were talking earlier.

I can do steady, but 20mph in a 50 is too much in the car, nevermind the bike, so bugger it, off i go too.

Onto catch up with the awesome fireblade rider on the vfr. Shouldnt be possible, but it was far too easy.

He didnt have any lines into corner, litterally just stuck to the centre line on a right hand bend, then powers out (eventually) and hurls on the brakes again for another horrific cornering attempt.

It went on like that for a while. I was almost scared for him. Such a complete lack of competence. Im no riding god and im not too interested in riding flat out, which is why ive got a vfr and not a cbr.

Then he pulls over and starts asking what mods ive done to my bike to keep up. A vfr shouldnt keep up with a fireblade.

No i said, no it should not.

Amazed. Theres alsorts of riders isnt there haha.

:D fantastic. Some people leave you lost for words don't they

That is why I don't like riding in groups.  I do occasionally as we tend to go out for a bimble in a small group and go and eat cake but we are all of a certain age and mature of mind and these small group rides I can cope with I just don't do the bigger, longer organised ones.  I can ride quite quickly but certainly am no knee scratcher and on a ride with a mate yesterday both of us on Tiger Explorers I noticed that he cornered far faster than me.  OK I had the wife on the back so am if possible even more careful but I was taught slow in and fast out and that is what I stick to.  That way I know I can make the corner rather than get into the corner and have one of those pants filling moments.  I spoke to him about it when we stopped and he was scraping his footpegs and loves it but the big thing here he is SAFE!  I have no doubts whatsoever about riding with him.

Even on our small rides there are riders who ride fat too slow for me and sit behind cars doing 40mph in a NSL when there is plenty of opportunity to pass.  On the longer runs our group practice the second man drop off system and whilst it is good to make sure that no one gets lost it does slow things down even further and just makes it take so long and boring.  I much prefer to ride alone or just in the small groups of 4 or 5 at the most as opposed to a dozen or more on the longer runs.

What I did notice yesterday when we stopped at a bikers cafe where there were a number of bikers mainly on sports bikes is that when the set off as single riders (not in a group) without exception they set off as though their arses were on fire revving the nuts off the bike, screaming along in each gear and looking and sounding to their minds fantastic I have no doubt. Yawn!  Each to their own I suppose but you just know that some of these will be wobbling around threepenny bit corners when they come to them.

Oh and while we were there someone came in on an old Triumph and then some old fart on a Harley started making comments about a proper Triumph had arrived as opposed to our newish ones.  I hate bike snobbery.  Look I don't want to be your mate and I won't be sending you a Christmas card but is there any real need to be disrespectful to our chosen make and model of bike.  I don't like Harleys but I would never dream of slagging one off in front of the rider.  We all make our choices in life and thankfully we don't all do the same otherwise it would be really boring and if you want to have a scruffy ponytail and wear a bandanna your choice but get over yourself.

Sounds similar to my view on riding and group rides mate. Always slow in fast out, always leave loads in it unleas i can see round the corner, you never know.

Corners are where the fun is, i do like power and acceleration, but anyone can do that, its the corners that take the talant.

Harley riders tend to be abit like that. The biggest snobs around. One of the reasons my dad got rid of his. Youd park up n other harley riders would come over 'what chapter are you on?' 'Alright that, but you want an old shovelhead'. Nahh. Not interested. Got the bike for riding, its just done 1500miles around europe and now im going to trade it in for a bike that works.

spend most my time riding on my own tbh. Going whereever i want, at my pace, stopping when i feel like it (or just not stopping) and not worrying about anyone else. I like it like that.

My wife very often rides with me be it in a group or on our own.  Even she complains when one particular bloke turns up for a ride as she knows we are going to be crawling along behind cars for ages sweltering in the heat because we are not going fast enough to get the benefit of a breeze.

+1 don't like riding to other peoples styles/standards. I have my own and regardless of how fast or slow it may be, it's the safest for me as it's what I am comfortable and confident at. Sure I could tip it into some awesome bends 20mph faster and get a great smooth line with my toe sliders brushing along and feed it on, on the way out, but if I meet a tractor doing 15mph and an oncoming vehicle.... I am brown bread! Everyone plays the odds game on the roads and bikers more so, but I am not up for increasing the odds of disaster needlessly.

On that note here is Badger again :)
