What did you do to your bike today?

Featured Replies

Try running an extra earth from the battery to frame/engine and see if it alters the readings.

Will not be looking at it again until tomorrow now. Have decided that there is no way that I will be taxing the bike before 1st May now as it's too much of a waste of a months tax. So I have a good week to play with still. All connectors seemed fine, but I didn't do anything to them other than look for general corrosion. I will remove the tank etc and use contact cleaner on all to see if it makes any difference. Randomly found this flow chart online which tells me that all is fine...... don't agree LOL but a handy wee list to work through none the less. http://www.electrosport.com/media/pdf/fault-finding-diagram.pdf

  • You're right, I've just undone one and the lip on the pipe extrudes out of the block so it's pressing against that.

There are lots of very good roads through there and beyond. The coast road up the side of Wales through and into Snowdonia is especially good riding. Basically most of no all of Wales is great riding and this is from an halve Irish halve English person who has lived in Wales more than halve his life.

Couldn't agree more. The only problem is getting there in the first place!

Another 2 brilliant roads I know of are as you go east out of Bala on the main road. There's a staggered junction where turning right goes over the mountains and eventually ends up back at Nescliffe on the A5 or towards Weshpool, the other is if you turn left you loop back towards Festiniog again going over the mountains

Swing arm bearings now out and it is at the powder coaters.

Danny post some pics up when you've had it done.

Been back out on the Daytona today when really I should have cleaned it BUT I ride rather than clean so ride it was.  However as I was walking to the bike the sun was just in the right place to show how cruddy the real foot peg and hanger was on the bike.  So when I got back I had a good look at it and it is tarnished but looks like it has been polished at some point as it is more chrome finish than alloy.

I took it off and had a go with Solvo Autosol but apart from getting sore and black fingers it hasn't done much.  Yes it has polished it but hardly removed any of the anodisation.  So what do you folks use?  I have read about using coke (the drink not the stuff you bung up your beak) and obviously I could use a polishing wheel if I had one (I don't) so what else is there?

I will obviously have to do all of them and anything else once I start so trying to avoid the solvo and elbow grease route if there is a quicker one.  Any suggestions would be well received.

Give it to Oli Chris - he's got plenty of Tim on his hands and has been practising on his swing arm...

Danny post some pics up when you've had it done.

I have tried but I am unable to upload. Someone on this site did kindly upload some photographs of my bike.

You'll need a machine really to do it properly. A Dremel would do with the right attachment.

Youll be there all week doing it by hand.

More fun and games today, ditched the tank didn't loose a drop (unlike when I put it back on like a mong :( )

How it looked with bike running and had run it up to temp and done a leaks check on coolant system while I was there. Running it sat at 13.8V for the most part edged toward 13.99V with trottle set to 5K rpm. Went over the pins in plugs off the regulator/rectifier and it's shot only returning on one phase in either direction. Ordered a used one from a breakers on fleabay to try my luck.

Took the Tuono out for a spin this evening with a mate on his K13s.

K13 runs rings around the T at higher speeds. Being naked and a short wheelbase, it starts lifting the front end when you start playing with the power. Front was coming up at 120kph *cough* during a short blip up a steep bypass. Change of surface or the slightest bump and it comes up and starts shaking its head. My god its fun though. K13s just digs in and is planted as anything, wondering what all the fuss is about...

Would I be able to get a disc for an ordinary drill?

yes mate, the Dremel attachments will go in a normal drill chuck. Drills generally just don't spin very fast, usually around 2000rpm and less controllable. A Dremel will do 5000-32000rpm and you can set it anywhere inbetween. If you've got a mains powered regular drill, it might spin faster than a normal battery one though. Theres usually a data badge on them which says the maximum speed.

Faster speeds the job up, but you don't want to be burning or to get too much heat built up, so keeping moving around.

Well after returning home after meeting Chris I dug out Mrs madrunners street triple for a quick clean and tyre pressure check as I'm using it all week in readiness for its mot on Saturday.

Good to give it a shakedown check all is Ok.

Well looking forward to taking the back lanes and wringing it's neck !!!!

We bought it new in early 2008 and have to say the bike is absolutely mint, not a mark on it.

Time to get it dirty this week.

Looks a nice install, tucked out the way ?

I hadn't finished completely on that, its all straight and sorted now.

It's basically just a bolt with a ball on, which you replace one of the 4 that hold the handlebar clamp onto the bars.

Then just run the wire straight under the tank and to the battery. Happy days :)

Shame it covers up the billet clamp abit but you cant have everything eh :D

Anything to get off a BMW I should think!  Don't forget Dave what I told you about my mate borrowing his partners bike!

Pleased you have sorted your Sat Nav Oli.  Now you should be able to find the next meet without a problem.

Oooh good point Chris. She laughed at me when I left this morning. The thing is tiny, worried I was going to break it just sitting on it, especially after all that food yesterday....

Took myself out for a decent ride. Had a blast on a low mileage KTM 990. I loved the twin cyclinder engine. Gearbox was slinky too. Riding position was a little forward thrust, if you get my meaning. It was a real nice piece of kit let down, in my opinion, by poor quality fittings that were already rusting up significantly. This is the second KTM I have looked at with the same sort of issues. I have no discounted the KTM sadly because of finish quality/resilience. Shame as it was a nice bike.

On Wednesday, I have booked a ride on the BMW F700gs (no 800 available) and a new v strom 650. Will be interesting to see how these shape up.

Nice one! KTM's are nice, but need looking after imo. If you're riding every day i wouldnt bother but if its just for nice days and a hobby thing, i wouldnt get hung up on it. Just gotta find a well looked after one and continue to look after it.

The Bmw's a parralel twin, which is a different ball game isnt it.. Love or hate.

The 650 vstrom is a nice bike, with the SV650 engine in. The engines are very reliable but not massively powerful, especially in a big bike like the vstrom.

Be interesting to hear your thoughts on them!
