What did you do to your bike today?

Good to hear your views.

The Suzuki isnt put together as well as the BMW. The SV650s that i used to have had fasteners and fixings made of cheese, and they're well known for it. Nice to ride, but go under the tank to do and work and stuff just falls apart as soon as you put a tool near it.

I look forward to hearing about the F800. Maybe that will be the one?

  • Put the wet weather kit on and went and did my Advanced Test.... and passed

  • You're right, I've just undone one and the lip on the pipe extrudes out of the block so it's pressing against that.

  • Finished! That's 2016 done.

Cheers fellahs.

I am looking for a new or nearly new machine. I bought my current bike from a dealer. It had been kitted out by the first owner with all the extras. He traded it in after 3 months with just 369 miles on the clock as he didn't get on with it. It was a real bargain. If I could find similar it would be great.

For the time, I suspect that I may be going in the direction of the F800gs, although I am going to take a look at the Tiger 800 following your advice on this thread.

I will be donating my current bike to my son so have nil to trade in. In your experience do bike dealers operate in the same way as car dealers............that is to say, they will deal if you push them using cash?

Ive never bought a brand new bike so cant really commen.

Bmw werent overly flexible when my dad bought his GSA brand new for cash. Struggled to get them to throw a silly expensive bag in with it.

All Skoda were interested in when i got the Fabia in 2013 was finance finance finance. They dont seem interested in cash anymore (they make more on finance dont they) which is when we clash, because im not interested in any finance on anything.

Got my swing arm back today and it is on bubble wrap in the living room at the moment. Also had delivered all the bits and pieces well I hope it is all the bits and piece!

Ooh lovely. Pics buddy?

Tiger tiger tiger kev. It'll make the f800 seem bland in comparison.

Keep us updated once you've had a ride.

Really enjoy reading stories of people looking for new bikes !

Mad,

Sure will. I will be organising a ride in the coming weeks.

I note that prices, both new and nearly new, are on a par with the F800gs. I have read a few reviews that infer the Tiger is the better road machine, while the beemer is better for the rough stuff.

My favourite website http://cycle-ergo.com/ Indicates that the Tiger should accommodate my knee, so all looks promising.

Thanks for your interest too.

Id say the 800 triple of the Trumpet will be miles better than the parralel twin of the BMW too!

So much more character and midrange. Plus that growl and whistle!

Not forgetting the Tiger Sport.

Triumph test ride sorted at Cheltenham for next Wednesday. Please stay dry.

You should find plenty of leg/knee room on the Tiger.  I like the look of the Tiger Sport but the engine is too small and it has a chain!  The new Explorer certainly has all the toys if you want it but I shall be sticking with my 63 plate one for some time as I love it to bits.

All the offers at the moment appear to be on their own finance scheme so they will want to be pushing that as that is what they make the money on but there is always a deal to be made.  I see the Tiger Sport has a free Sat Nav and fitting kit though. Fingers crossed for the weather for you though Kev.

I think it has given better weather next week!

Snowing here quite abit but not sticking today. A good day to test traction control and rider aids perhaps, but not much else :D

Thanks fellahs. Looking forward to the ride. To be honest I'd never considered it until it was mentioned by yourselves on this thread. I always assumed, quite wrongly, that Triumph did not do a lighter bike that would fit my needs.

They're a good bunch of blokes there so should see you right if you prefer the triumph. Regarding cash I got a decent discount on my GS so you should be able to get a deal with no trade in. Good luck with the weather, I rode to Scotland today and it was a trip I wouldn't want to do again, hope the return trip is better. It had it all...accidents delays roadworks rain wind hail 6 hours of not much fun and the bike's a bit dirty now. Lovely views of mountains covered in snow was about the only highlight.

I guess you wasn't in a rush to sit down when you got there either Ade!

Not been out on the bike since the trip to Chris Walker's last Sunday as I have been too busy and the weather has been rubbish so I am missing it.  Today looks good already and I may have to go somewhere as an excuse just to get out.  Not a  hour ride though I will leave that to you youngsters. :D

You're right there Chris. Numb bum syndrome comes to mind! It took SWMBO about an hour to warm up but the hotel's quite nice (and warm) though it looks like about 50% came in their cars....these BM riders.....off for a ride round today as forecast for tomorrow is grim.

Thanks Ade. Couple of people have indicated that it's a good dealership. Birmingham is slightly nearer but not great for a test ride.

Respect to you for the ride to Scotland especially in this weird weather. I hope the trip back treats you somewhat better. Ride safe

I was impressed as I called in without making an appointment and nothing was too much trouble. I rode the Explorer and 800xrx at stratford and don't feel too bad as I got the toilet from blade BMW at Rednal and all 3 are part of the same group and the BMW one they took over from the previous dealer last year I think it was. If they don't want to give you a discount go somewhere else. Best go in prepared with a figure in mind and say thats what you want to pay. If they say no ask for their best price and if you're not happy tell them you're after a better deal and leave your number making it clear you are serious about buying one and not just a time waster. Towards the end of the month is often a good time to get a good discount if they're chasing bonuses.

Well out on the toilet today with a few other mad BM riders-mad as in wtf we doing out in this not mad as in loon riders going too fast. The route was supposed to be sweeping A roads but the ride leader had other ideas and most of the ride was on single track and unclassified roads which saps the old brain box 2 up on a GS. Anyway the good news is it p1ssed it down on the way back so I'm hoping that's washed the salt off from yesterday!

As long as the roads didnt have grit on to start with.

Wet salty roads are the worst. It gets everywhere :(.

That's who I bought the xr from, blade at rednal. Good bunch in there. I know the md of the group and he genuinely cares for the customers and earns their loyalty.

Well the street flew through its mot this morning, just an advisory on the rear tyre which I measured before it went in.

Didn't feel great on the ride over as was out at a works do last night but managed to stomach (just)an early burger from the butty van. Wife was laughing as I was almost gagging.
