Is 32psi all round too low on a 2014 octavia vrs tsi?

Featured Replies

Having read several comments of people running 34/36 all round I have recently put 34 psi in all 4, however I find the ride ridiculously harsh and am considering dripping to 32 all round like on previous cars! I have 225/40/18 Gemini alloys will this be OK? For some reason the mk2 was much lower recommendations.

Have you checked for transport blocks on the front shocks under the dust cover?

Also, brand of tyre makes a difference, my first O3 had Dunlops on 18's and they were rock hard. My second one has sports suspension and Bridgestones and is noticeably better. Neither would be my choice of tyre though.

I run at 34psi on a L&K on 18's.

I've had mine as low as about 32 (when i forgot to check them for a while and found they were all down to this) and as high as 38,  didn't notice a lot of difference TBH, ride quality wise.  did seem to get more mileage at higher pressures.  my tyre wear was just checked last week at first service and its even across the treads.

Run my tdi at 35psi or 2.4 bar in line with recommendations and it's ok, got almost 20k miles on it now and the suspensions definitely better / not as harsh or bouncy after this and a few heavily loaded road trips.

Recommend tyre pressures are on the fuel filler flap. 18" on RS TSI are 2,3 Bar front and rear which equates to 33.35 psi (ish) for 3 persons / luggage. As with others, personally running 35 psi front / rear on RS TDI which has the same recommended pressures.

Hi there is definitely no transport blocks it just seemed hard at the back end but trialled it today at 32 psi rear tyres and didn't notice much difference, I guess the nature of the car is going to dictate a quite solid ride just thought I'd give the tyres a try! I'm running conti's on the back and bridgestones on the front (brand new) the rears have 11,000 miles on them and still loads of tread left however the front conti's where on the marker at 10,200 so had them changed. Beautiful car in every way just thought 34/36 psi seems quite high for a manufacturer recommendation! When in the past they usually go towards the soft side! Thanks for the reply folks!

I go with the 2.4 bar (35-36psi) and all is ok.

Having had the car a year and 7.5k miles I'd say the suspension does soften ever so slightly after a couple of k.  It's nothing dramatic though..... Could be acustomisation even.

If you're not really pushing the car through the corners I guess 32psi will give a slightly softer ride without compremising the tyre lifespan however, if comfort improvements are what you want, a new softer set of shocks are required as there isn't enough side wall on a 40 profile tyre.  Not sure

I agree with above. I do have mine tad lower also as 75% of the time is just me. Even with kids in the back is nothing extreme
