Bike rack on vRS estate

Featured Replies

I just take off the front wheel, spin the handlebar 90 degrees and loosely tie one end of it to the cross-bar with a bit of elastic. Then sling it in the back. Large sheets of cardboard keep the muddy bike off the upholstery and keep bikes from interfering with each other.

No risk of theft or aerodynamic-related bike loss.

I can get three mountain bikes and 3 people in my mk3 estate. Admittedly not large size and not full suspension (removal of front tyre and seat tube/saddle and at least one inverted)

Easier with road bikes.

Good idea mentioned above about using large sheets of cardboard, not just for floor but also bike contact points

Just had this fitted last week.  Thule Euro Classic G 6.

No idea what is in the boot and the sloping driveway doesn't help but, looking at the difference in tyre to wheel arch gap between front and back wheels, I'm glad I went for a Yeti as with four bikes on the towbar there is barely any change in ride height.

If you go for a rear mounted bike rack on the combi, be very careful not to hit the rear wiper stalk. I have cooked a wiper motor doing this before.

I have a Thule roof rack, I can have it out the garage on the car and away in about five minutes - highly recommend you consider this option.

Thanks all. After lots of further research and weighing up the amount of use, the cost, ease of loading and any ancillary costs, I've plumped for a Saris Gran Fondo. This is a rear mounted rack, but suspends the bikes in such a way that the no.plate and lights aren't obscured. If it was my car, I'd probably pay for a towbar and get a hitched carrier, but as its PCH its a no no. I'll drop another post to feedback on this particular rack once it's been delivered. Once again thanks for all the input guys. Much appreciated.

Great set up. Also have to say, very impressed with how the silver Geminis look. I went for silver Pictoris alloys on my Metal Grey and I'm very pleased I did. But your Geminis look fantastic against the Blue. Well done.

Another vote for towbar mounted, although this is clearly the most expensive option and isn't suited to PCP / PCH.

I tried the roof bar mounted carriers but our bikes are heavy and it nearly killed me trying to lift the things above my head!

That's an odd angle to have the electrics hanging down at. What's going on there?

Worse than that - I'm pretty sure the default setting on a vrs is to use the back wiper automatically based on the auto front wipers (can turn this off in infotainment)

The socket is hidden so tucked up behind the bumper. I think on some more expensive set-ups the socket can be lowered when needed.

The reason it looks worse here is that my bike rack is from Germany and came with a 13 pin plug. The extra length is the 13 to 7 pin adapter.

The photo doesn't help, it is still a long way from the ground.

I spotted the 13- to 7-pin adapter, but wondered about the angle.

Does your socket not swing down? That would explain why it points down at an angle.

You've got me thinking now! I don't think I've ever tried to move it...
