If you had the money...

Featured Replies

Was speaking to a chap I know the other day who's in a similar position to myself. Rather loves bikes but banned by the family.

So we were discussing what we would have in our garage if 1 - we had a pile of spare money and 2 - we could do it without being nagged to death.

Neither of us plumped for the latest and greatest.

I'd have....one of these -

One of these -

One of these...

Yamaha%20YZF%20R1%202001%20Deep%20Purple

and one of these to actually go anywhere on...

I would have the Tiger I have now because I love it and it does all I need and if I really had the room for another it would most likely be a Honda VTR1000SP2 maybe in Honda colours and maybe just in Colin Edwards World Championship winning Castrol colours.

Oh and maybe a Honda CBX1000 six cylinder monster just because the sheer size and bulk.

I was working out a little game to spend £xxx amount on however many bikes, could be fun.  :sun:

Id have an SP2 aswel! Id love one!

Youd get on with my dad then. Hes been looking for a cx500 and a cbx1000 in immaculate condition for years lol.

Personally, id have an 1199 panigale, a multistrada, the sp2 and probably something that isnt a vtwin, to break it up abit haha.

Had a CX500 as my second bike many many years ago.  The Plastic Slug!  I think for me it is the exhaust note of the triple on the Tiger that does it for me as it is very different from the V4 of the VFR or an across the frame four. Likewise a VTR or a six cylinder would be 'different'.  Buy hey it is just great to be out on a bike.

CG 125.........just to be different ✌

Yeah i know what you mean. I think its the balancer shaft in the triple that gives it that unmistakable whine too! I like a triple!

Im not a fan of inline 4's. Id have one if it was a great big engine, but not interested in screaming 600's at all.

The vfr doesnt sound bad once you change the exhaust. More like a deep burble to it now. Sounded horrendous with the standard can.

I'd maybe like a Speed Triple too :D  the bug eyed one in lurid green.

Get one bought. You only live once (:

Learnt on one, had it for a few years.

Loved it tbh. Had some really good fun pushing it on bendy roads.

Had a play with an octavia 1.9tdi on the cat and fiddle one evening. He pulled up afterwards and shook my hand for keeping up hahaa. Top man.

Although i suspect it wouldnt be so much fun if i got on one now...

Edit: Just reminiscing on that now actually haha. I had to pull over in macc cos my brakes stunk and were completely fried. Never had that on a bike since!!

I rode one for years to and from work. Paid £500 and sold it seven years later for £550 having sprayed it in waxoyl to protect the chrome wheels and guards especially. Regular oil changes and one chain set.

I actually bought one four years ago and rode to Cornwall on it. (£950 purchase and £1250 selling price). Received an official commendation from a couple of sports bike riders en route who could not believe I had come so far on he little machine.......a bit like your tussle with the Octavia!

There is something really enjoyable about the CG. It is basic motorcycling at its best. Now let's have a look at bike trader..........you never know.......

Back on topic.........this still does it for me:

Aha i made money on mine too!!

Bought it for £1150 with 500 miles on the clock, crashed into a drink driver in a pick up (he pulled out on me) and got £1300 off the insurance for it, it had 20,000 miles on at this point. But was immaculate to say the least.

Yeah back on topic. My dad might be after one of them when he feels hes getting too old for the GS Adventure.

Ill have the girl though please....

  • 4 weeks later...

Let's start with an original CB750, the one with 4 single exhausts.

A '92 blade in purple white and red, with no mods

Then a CBX1000 to keep them company.

In the Kawasaki stable there would be a Z1B and a KH750h2

Suzuki would be represented by a 750 kettle and AP50

FS1e and RD400 coffin tank from Yamaha.

Oh, the list goes on.....

Would keep the NC for everyday

A zx7r is only good for looking at. Good in its day but that was a long time ago. Same goes for the original blade, no power just no weight at the time. Now you get 80hp more with less weight on some modern sports bikes.

I've had plenty of bikes and the one I'd have again is a ZX12R but it's heavy so that's for looking at and an S1000RR for the road.

The problem with bikes like the s1000rr is that... I like my licence.

Get the R, the wind makes it too much hard work to do silly speeds then lol

The thought has crossed my mind tbh

Naked bikes might be the way forward haha.

Even the vfr (which is not even close to the level of the s1000) is happily cruising along at 120-130, with plenty left to keep pulling onto 160 (apparently ;)), keeping you relatively protected if you took in. The faster you go the more sense it makes.

Naked (the bike, not me) im sure itll give the incentive to slow down when you get arm ache haha.

And it looks better, costs less, is more comfortable and makes more power and torque than the RR apart from at the (completely irrelevant for road use) top end of the rev range. Bikes like the RR are utterly pointless as road bikes. Yes, they're impressive from an engineering standpoint, but as a road bike they're as much use as the pope's testes. Yes they make big power for racers and bar room bulls**tters (at the expense of midrange), but, as a roadbike, what's the point? They're so sanitised and festooned with all the electronics safety net s**te, that if you ride them at speeds that are going to mean just a 12 month ban then you're bored senseless, or if you ride them hard enough to make them exciting then you're going either to jail, or the morgue. If you want a litre bike that's 's raw, visceral, nasty and grin inducing as they should be then buy a 4XV model R1 and stick Renthal bars on it. It'll look a million times better than the squint eyed, styled by a 12 year old transformers fan S1000 RR too, lol. And it'll appreciate in value, rather than shedding half it's RRP the moment you roll it out of the showroom.

You do say it how it is dont you haha.

The s1000xr would do me.

Apart from the pricepoint, and id rather have a multistrada tbf. But still aha.

Yeah, most modern bikes bore me senseless, with all their pointless over complication and ****y electronic s**te, but one of those would be a damn good all rounder (if that's what you want from a bike) . I wouldn't buy one though, even if I could afford the comedy price tag, I'd sooner have the S1000R (without the stupid electronic suspension). The list of current new bikes (at any price) that I'd consider as a straight swap for mine would be very short.

Well yeah. Price is an issue.

A mate of mine with a 2012 multistrada had a look at the s1000xr, test rode it etc n liked it. But couldnt see why he'd part with all the extra cash. Didnt do anything the strada wouldnt and couldnt see the point really. So he didnt.

And thats a guy that can afford it

Servicing on the Duke will cost you more though, which may or may not offset the price difference, depending on how long you keep it. The beamer will never sound like the Duke will, bellowing through a full Termi system though.

Price wise, everything about bikes is ludicrous now. Have you seen what a full Akrapovic system for a Panigale costs? Only £3359, lol. Or if you're poor you can get a pair of their slip on cans for just £2369. I want some of what they're smoking, lol...

But if youve got the cash to buy a Panigale, its not all that much?

Shame. Ive spoken to a few panigale S owners (or just riders, you never know) and their head size seems to grow upon purchase.

Nice bikes, but only good if you ride rhem like theyre supposed to be ridden. Much like the s1000rr.

Far too many buy them for posing and showing off. Which is abit annoying. Considering you can buy a VW Golf for more money.

I must be getting old, and my younger self would never have said this, but I'd rather have a new Golf gti than a new Panigale, lol.

Years ago I had a 748S for a few months (on loan from work) and I used to amuse myself by, every time somebody looked it over and asked about it (which was pretty much every time you parked it up), inventing a different bulls**t story about it. Not one of 'em seemed to twig that I was talking cobblers, lol.
