Radio wiring help.

Featured Replies

I am off work tomorrow so if like to sort my amp/sub out if the weather plays ball.

I currently have it all hooked up and working. My only problem is that it is constantly on. So it looks like I have connected it to a permanent live instead of a switched live.

Can anyone confirm this?

Where can I find a diagram of the wiring colours so I can fix it and not have this issue again?

Does anyone know the colour I require?

Not sure if it makes any difference but the radio I have is an aftermarket pioneer appradio.

Thanks.

You need to swap the yellow and red wires.

Really? I thought that was for radio memory? Ie saved channels, time, date etc.

Yeah, the perm and switched live are the other way around on VAG cars.

Yes but I'm not having an issue with my radio. That doesn't stay on. It turns on and off with ignition. But the sub stays on. Which makes me think I've connected that wrong somewhere behind the radio.

Maybe it's the remote cable?

Oh I see. Not sure then TBH.

Ok thanks for your help though.

The sub should be connected to the remote wire from the head unit. This way, each time the player is turned on, the amplifier is powered on as well, and the same when turning it off. I hope you didn't get a live feed for the sub directly from the battery and bypass the remote wire. It will kill your battery this way. What sub/amplifier/headunit do you have? Maybe we can identify the wires that you have to connect.

Headunit is the Pioneer AppRadio 3.

Amp/Sub is the Pioneer TS-WX77A.

It's an active slim sub. So it needs a battery connection iirc. I think it is the remote that's causing it but not 100%.

I had a similar one. There are 2x12v connections. A yellow and a blue one. The yellow one, which also has a fuse on it goes to the battery and the blue one goes to the back of the head unit. I hope i do remember it ok.

Yes that is correct. I'm thinking the blue on is connected to the wrong wire behind the Headunit itself?

Do you know what the correct wire is by any chance?

It should go to the remote white/blue wire, the one which goes to the aerial amplifier as well. As stated here at page 5 (yes, I know, I don't read the installation manuals until it goes boom  ). My setup was a Pioneer AVH-X1600DVD with a TS-WX210A sub. The sub was crappy, I decided to go with an amplifier + passive sub. It's much better IMHO.

Yes I think I have worked out the problem now. I just need to get conformation of the correct wire so I can correct it.

I shall go out now and take a picture of what I have done and then post it here. See if you can spot anything obvious.

This is where I have it connected currently. To the blue wire.

But the I found seems to suggest I need a grey wire for switched

I have also found this information on here wheeling is contradictory to the above colour information.

The briskoda information suggests brown wire with red stripe for switched live.

OEM brown and red wire changes to yellow on the pioneer wiring harness.

This is where I have it connected currently. To the blue wire.

It looks ok to me. When you switch off the ignition, the headunit is off and the sub is still powered on ?

Yes. I think I have sorted it now. I have connected the blue sub remote lead to the yellow wire on the pioneer harness. Yellow wire on the harness corresponds to the brown wire with red stripe on the above picture marked 8d/pin4.
