Lol ! Just out of interest what have you ordered ?

The 16'' winter wheel set, haha. We'll see soon enough if they really fit.

And the "not getting ventilated enough" argument doesn't hold any water. My wife drove once with the handbrake on, no big deal. Just cherry red wheels and early brake pads replacement ...

Ahhhhhhh... :-) you've ordered the 16" wheel set before or after all the advice people on here have given you ? If it was before... Well I can understand your concern... After....well ;-)

But does it really matter? Order is in July.

Can anyone point me to this elusive „documentation”?

Sat in a 280 ‘Sportline’ in a showroom this morning. Must say I wish had those seats: so much more supportive.

As for the rest? The red colour looked good, but otherwise I don’t care much for it. All that black everywhere including on the wing mirrors – yuck! It just looks like it’s trying too hard to achieve … what exactly?

Incidentally, big price increases must be coming soon - ref. the current Tesco v. Unilever spat.

I'll never comprehend the vagaries of insurance companies.

I switched from a 170 PS diesel Superb to a 280 PS petrol Superb and my annual insurance came down. Same company.

I increased the 280 PS to 350 PS and my annual insurance came down. Had to switch company though.

Hope you enjoy it Philpix. It's been a long wait.

BillyJim,  did you chip tune or just go for tuning box like racechips from 280 to 350?

Slight thread drift here - does anyone know if the brakes on the 220bhp TSI are any bigger than those on the 190bhp diesel? I've got the diesel engine at the moment, with 16" winter wheels/tyres that fit just fine. I'm considering changing to a Superb with the 220bhp petrol engine and am hoping my winter wheels will still be OK.

RaceChip Ultimate tuning box.

Just popped over from the Octavia 3 section.

November (!) edition of CAR magazine dropped through the letterbox this morning. They've just taken on an estate as a long termer - "L&K 2.0TSI 280PS 4x4" with DSG. Kitted out with other extras to £40,700.

I no longer have access to erWin, but the German Škoda-TüV enforcement document that lists acceptable wheel/tyre sizes is here. It only applies to German law enforcement and vehicle testing.

It does contain the caveat that for non-standard wheel/tyre sizes that Škoda should be contacted (and a German hotline number is provided).

When I ordered my Superb III in June 2015 I had many telephone conversations with Škoda UK about various concerns, among which was my desire to fit 16" winter wheels/tyres.

That was referred to their "technical department" and the reply was [a] they would not fit due to larger brake size, and  they are not an approved wheel size for that model.

When I checked the German configurator, the winter wheel options didn't include 16" for the 206 kw (and still don't). The UK site never includes winter wheels/tyre options.

I have, however, come across a German company offering 16" steel wheels with or without tyres in the U.K. which it claims will fit the 220/280.

I can see a headline already:

“A £40k* Skoda!”

The ensuing question “Is it worth it” will be answered “we never thought we’d say this, but…”.

And that answer will likely have rather less to do with the fact that I happen to agree, and rather more with them wanting more 6-month freebees like this in the future, thank you very much.

Supplying them with a car specced to take it over that threshold also seems a very deliberate move on Skoda’s part to pull people’s perceptions of Skoda in this direction, what with the Kodiaq also on its way. Audi brand managers must be fuming.

* £44k by March?

No, no snarky comments about Skoda and price at all. There's a comment on the very slight delay when stop/start starts, and that's it. Some background history on Laurin and Klement, complimentary details of the spec and the engine, and favourable comparisons with a £43k VW Passat diesel estate they're also running. Even mentions only Skoda and Rolls-Royce fit door umbrellas.

Car Magazine just landed on my doormat. 'Our Cars' new arrival:

Superb L&K 2.0 TSI 280PS 4x4 Estate.

Can't wait to read the reviews over the next few months as this will (I hope, everything crossed) be my next car!

(Just noticed I've been beaten to it - posts above - should be really interesting anyway!)

Just a heads-up.....

Over on the Octy thread, there've been posts about Skoda reducing the brake disc size on the 185 diesel vRS but not the 220 petrol. All kicked off around six months back. More to do with cosmetic appearance (with some worrying about performance) than whether wheels less that 182 will fit.

Sorry, not much use to you, but if your local dealer is any good, maybe they can help to answer?

Thanks for that. I actually had this question answered on another thread. It seems like 17" are the smallest wheels you can put on both the 220 and 280bhp TSIs. So getting rid of my 16" winters would be another factor to take into consideration.

Lets not jump to conclusions yet.

:D  This is better than Monty Python !

.....always look on the bright side of life....dee dum dee dum dee 'effin DUMB

I tried 16 inch ones for my winter set. They were touching the calipers (just a couple of mm's but still unusable as this was off the ground, so would have been worse with the car moving) so off they went, replaced by 17 inch ones.

Ok, will try again then, maybe if I do 1,000 miles with them the calipers will scrape enough of the alloy so that they no longer touch.

...scrape enough of the alloy...

Nah - nah - na - naa - nah...   use steel wheels, not alloys!

Oh jeez, I can't believe I'm still responding about bleeding 16" wheels. Now where did I put that damn vodka? Sod the vodka... where's my gun... oh, I know, something even better than self-harming ... let's talk about OIL !!!

By the way, those men in white coats are so kind to let me use their computer.

So, eh .... you admit 16'' steel wheels fit!

Don't worry about it, there's nothing wrong with talking about such small wheels ...

Oh damn, back to the gun then...
