Just out of curiosity, where was the rust on the tailgate?

I've just had mine refused for the rust under the number plate light and a bubble under the paint near to the number plate.

Apparently the dealer went to skoda to get approval and it was declined.

I'm going to do some homework before I push the case further, get some ammo on my side first.

Having the same issue with my 2007 VRS. Clear warranty claim. Rust appearing from the inside to the outside. First spotted it on the rear offside door. Dealer said yep, clear warranty claim. Skoda UK chucked the claim out, demanded more photos, then more photos, then photos with a microscope! I kicked up a fuss and eventually they agreed to repair the door. Car goes in for 2 days. Comes out and they've repaired the wrong panel! Going around the car and we spot more areas where exactly the same thing is happening, rust bubbing through the paint. Lots of pics taken and all sent off to the warranty department.

Now waiting to see what the outcome is.

Glad it isn't just me having this issue and OP, you have had a brilliant result. Hope your car comes back all shiny and new and you are happy with it!

Right, I have the same issue as you. Rust from inside-out on doors, rear arch/quarter. Skoda Customer Services are **** and the dealer are refusing to accept my claim.

The authorised VAG bodyshop took paint depth readings and said (for example) 3/4 panels seemed original paint, the 4th was possibly "iffy"...

Skoda then looked at the readings (apparantly) and said that 3.4 panels were NOT genuine and the 4th might be...

Contradicting, right?

They then said it was impact damage and "afterall, the car is 8 years old, sir" .........

I then argued (politely) that the paint wasn't broken, except one part which is worse than others and it is impossible to be impact damage as clearly inside out.

I also went on to say, "why offer 10 year warranty, to then blame the car being 8 year old" !?!?

I mean, come on Skoda, sort your selves out.

She then went on about working in the industry for 15 years, not that I give a hoot.. I've stripped back seals and everything and there is NO sign of overspray, which unless a bodyshop removed every panel and done a full and proper job, there's most likely going to be slight overspray, runs on the insides/edges.

Also my paint depths are somewhere between about 110-160 microns, shouldn't this be way higher is the car had been reprayed? I'm pretty sure respraying is thicker than this?

Anyways, do you agree? How can I fight this? Do I try another dealer?

The issue I had was that the dealer said it should be and skoda uk said no.

Best way is to ask to speak with one of the managers at skoda uk and get them to agree to an independent specialist to come and view the car. Skoda will then use this and make a decision.

Cut a long story short it took me 8 weeks of kicking off to get somewhere but it paid off :)

Some cars get repaired and resprayed before they even get to the forecourt. There is even a bodyshop at the docks I'm led to believe.

Ah my current favourite hobby horse!!!

My sorry saga has been going on since May. To be fair to Skoda Customer service they have been very good. Can't say the same about their warranty department or two of the dealers. Some of the excuses being given are laughable.

Strangely I have had an independent paint inspection report done on the car this Friday. Received that today and sent it across to Skoda, we shall see what the outcome of this is.

My advice is to not give up, keep hassling them and eventually, with any luck, Skoda will do the right thing by you.

I'm in complete agreement with you re. the warranty length. Why offer it if you are going to do everything you can to wriggle out of paying out on it?

So do you recommend paying for an independent inspection, is pvwi2010 as Skoda / Warranty team say or... Go to other bosyshops for independent inspections/paint depths?

I've not heard from them since my last 'argument' with the dealer so I'd assume they think I've gave up... Ha ha, yeah right!

I just want to take the right route to proceed and preferably without paying out of my pocket.

It was PVWI that came out to inspect my car, happy to go with them as that was the only way Skoda was going to pay for the inspection.

Phone call received this afternoon from Skoda saying that the warranty repair has now been authorised and all affected panels will be resprayed.

Now just waiting on the dealer to make contact to arrange for the car to go in.

So we are now a major step closer to a satisfactory resolution.

As I said earlier, keep hassling them and don't just go away. My feeling is that Skoda just expect people to give up, if you keep the pressure on you do get your problem sorted.

Have to say though, it really shouldn't be this hard.

Ah right, so did they pay for your PVWI inspection?

So paint inspection was sent off to Skoda, who came back and now agree that it is a warranty claim. Dealer will call and arrange a time for the work to be done.

Underwoods call, sort a date and then get asked whether I need a courtesy car or not. When I tell them that I do require one I'm met with the news that there is a £5 admin charge for every day that I have the car. They think the car will be needed for somewhere between 7and 14 days, but it may be longer!! Informed them that I would speak to Skoda UK again as basically I think they're taking the **** a bit.

How did you manage to get them to give in and pay? I'd like some assistance if you'd be so kind....

I have a Jetta with a rusty bonnet, rusty boot, rusty sills and rust on the B Pillar. VW Will not budge on 50% as 'goodwill' which left me with an £800 bill for just the bonnet and the boot (not including the sills).

I might have a problem if this were to crop up with mine at any point: my car was held back with the massive bunch that got hit in that freak hail storm at the docks in 2008. I don't know if mine got damaged at all and Skoda would not tell me no matter how much I asked, but I suppose it's possible that if it got resprayed then the paint depth could be different to factory.

Basically I was like a dog with a bone. I kept pestering and hassling and made sure Skoda knew I wasn't just going to go away. To be fair the two guys at Skoda UK customer service were very good and it got to the point where they were embarrassed by how bad the dealers were.

So my advice is to keep phoning them up, keep going back to your dealer, or use another one and keep getting the paint warranty claims sent through.

HTH.
