Upgrade interior light

Featured Replies

Just fitted the interior light from an Audi, apart from a slightly worrying smell of burning that I'm going to have to look into...

Are the two smaller led's meant to light up at all?

Maybe I'll be lucky enough to be able to see all the specs of broken glass in my car one day... If I wire it up correctly that is.

  • This was Gee's old car so you have Charlie lol. Sorry for poor pictures

  • Well when you drive around in with this, whats a little bit more blue lol

Aren't they supposed to be on all the time when the lights are on so (night time)

A kind of 'mood lighting' type thing.

think they're map reading lights, should come on when you press the button for them.

Hmm, well nothing seems to happen at all.

Tried checking with the headlights on and it doesn't seem to do anything, but it is day time and really sunny, think they light up white so might be why also, was just checking more than anything.

The smell seemed to be the LED bulb in number 3 housing, changed it for a new one and it's fine.

You'll need to run a wire from the headlight switch so they come on with the sidelights. I've done it in mine.

Any more advice on that?

I have the wiring loom adaptor so it plugs in and works.

Any pictures on what you done?

Thanks

which audi does this come from? an A4?

I had these in my 2003/4 Audi A3.

Iirc someone took the same lights from a MK1 a superb with green mood lighting and was plug and play fit, no additional bits needed doing?

Sorry that I can't search for the link to the thread as I'm being naughty at work :p

Was told it came from and Audi Q8?

It's the same as the VW W8 interior light and the same as the Skoda superb interior light.

Audi - white lights

VW - red lights

Skoda - green lights

Basically none of it works apart from the actual bulb bits which lights up as usual when you open the door. The 'mood lights' do nothing and the buttons and switches do nothing.

Now I'm home from work I can have a quick search....

I've read a few of them and it is from a Superb, amongst others and it appears you need to splice some wires together....

Someone made their own ...

There are more... I used the words "superb light" I'm the Fabia MK1 forum.

I want some green ambient lights again now :p

Hmm, my wiring loom doesn't look like that. Well it does but it doesn't have the one extra wire going to nowhere....

Waste of money then really... Will never get a chance to wire in the extra light to the switch, not to mention I don't even know which wire I need to wire into or how to do it.

This is the exact item I bought, still have the box it came in new.

Hard to tell actually but looks like four wires leaving the switch and three going to the plug, maybe the extra wire is wrapped up in the tape or something?

From what I've read you need a different look to the one that comes with it, which I guess does have the extra wire you need to wire into the headlight switch?

  • Author

I can't imagine them being different, I'll just need to add an extra wire or splice into a different one that goes somewhere els!

Seems silly...

Does the standard interior light, light up? As in the switches when you put the sidelights on.
