Japanese Cars Are "most Popular" - But The Octavia Comes Third

Featured Replies

Interesting that the only two cars that beat the Octy in the "most recommended to friends" cars poll are two of the most hideous cars on the road (and school run buses at that) :)

See the newspaper article here in our News forum too.

I'm afraid I'm guilty of nearly getting a (regular) Yaris instead of my Skoda. At the time the Fabia & Yaris were the leading supermini vehicles, and a Yaris was my #2 choice if the Fabia fell through. Looking back, and at my car now and Yaris' now, I'm SO glad I didn't.

Do I detect a hint of bias in the BBC article?

"Four out of the ten most recommended cars were Japanese made" - So, six out of ten weren't, then.

The top car wasn't Japanese at all. And apart from appearing third in the table, the Octavia doesn't even get a mention....

*blush*

I didn't even know we had a News forum as I never scroll down the home page and always click straight on the Forums link.

How come "News" doesn't appear under "Community" on the main Forums page?

It does. eek.gif

Well that's curious.

If I browse anonymously I see the News forum under Community

But when I log in, it disappears. I only see General / Lounge / Motorsport / FAQs under Community.

Something doesn't like me :-(

I can see 12 topics under Community - but there again I have powers that ffelan can only dream of. :D (But he does have bigger wheels than me, unless of course he is a dab hand with Photoshop.)

yes denis i do have bigger wheels... and more valves (4 more) 2 more cylinders and about 150 more horses.... still only 2wd though....

:p

Post the missing topics problem in Suggestion Box and the backroom experts will sort out a fix.

As for Paul, surely there is some other forum where you can go and boast about your wheels/valves/HP to people who might just be impressed? Time for my afternoon nap now... :o

yes i have two pussy's that go for an afternoon nap as well....

must be a common thing...

Hmmm, interesting. I have 5 topics under Community:

General, Lounge, Motorsport, FAQs and News.

Maybe this is the beginning of a great dawning of light somewhere as to why people keep asking the same questions etc ....

its a mod thing nic... mortals and underlings have no access.

4x4 owners only.

Hmm... I think I see a pattern emerging:

ZootyRS, numskull = Briskodian - can't see "news"

The rest of us (I think) are supporters (hard to tell with the custom tags), and can see "news".

Denis, of course, has godlike powers, and can see a lot more :D

Perhaps the group permissions are wrong for "news"?

So what are the other 7 topics Denis can see? Denis?

OK so I can understand "powers" but why hidden forums?

They aren't hidden as such. If I select Forums from the Home page, under Community I can see:

Briskoda General

The Lounge

Motorsport

FAQs

News

But if I double click on Community the list expands to:

Briskoda General

The Lounge

Motorsport

FAQs

Suggest a FAQ

Skoda Technical FAQ

Performance and Maintenance FAQ

Site Related FAQ

Purchasing & Imports

News

Polls

i only get:

Briskoda General

Lounge

Motorsport

FAQs

wierd!

Ah I see. Clicking on the Community link implicitly expands all the subtopics and presents them as a flat de-normalised list. So no hidden topics really, except that as Mike suggested, presumably News is set to be invisible to Briskodians which is probably wrong.

Neo if you open FAQs you will see all the other FAQ topics (e.g. Skoda Technical FAQ) that Denis mentioned.

*coughontopiccough* :D

I'm actually surprised it's only four! ;)

If you do a country breakdown I'm sure Japan would be the leader with four in the top ten.
