Mann oil filter

Featured Replies

Hi All

Normally use Skoda filters but decided to try a Mann filter (mann hu719/7x) from ECP. It looks a bit different to the Skoda filter.

Will it fit OK and do they perform as good as the Skoda filters?

Its a 2010 FL 170 CR.

Cheers

Dave

Mann are fine but I am starting to wonder about some other longstanding well known makes :nerd:

The last time I bought a genuine VAG oil filter, it was simply a Mann filter in a VAG box. So presumably they are one of the oem suppliers.

As above, they should be decent.I used Mann filters on my Bmw as they were much cheaper than OEM ones. General consensus was that they are oem level quality

I just checked the Mann filter against a Skoda filter and the differences are:

1) The OEM filter has a zigzag fold paper element giving a larger surface area, the Mann filter has a straight fold.

2) The OEM filter has a black hard plastic top, the Mann filter has a rubber/glue compound on the top but no hard plastic apart from the tube in the middle.

3) The OEM filter is approx 5mm or 6mm longer than the Mann filter.

I wouldn't be happy using the Mann filter so will just use the Skoda filters.

Cheers

Dave

Here is my genuine OEM Skoda oil filter direct from a Skoda main dealer.

Printed on it is 'MANN Filter'  :D

Needless to say I'll be buying MANN filters from now on for roughly half the price compared to buying direct from Skoda.

If there is a difference in size then you've probably been given the wrong filter.

That looks different to my Skoda filter. That's the same as the Mann one I got. Looks like the wrong filter they gave me.

I should mention that filter pictured above was bought for the 2.0 CR140 engine in my Superb, they sent me the wrong one (pictured) so I had to buy the right one from the local motor factors.

Skoda sent me this (claimed a picking error as the invoice showed the correct part number)...

I needed this...

If you have a spare half hour to waste the full saga (with more pictures) is here  :D

Here is a pic of the two filters. You can see the Mann one is a bit shorter.

Filter might not actually be shorter. As the genuine one has a plastic top

Thanks for the picture, it appears both the filters you have shown are supplied by VWAG under part number 071 115 562 C:

From the above link it appears the one you pictured on the left is probably a Purflux filter and the right is obviously the Mann - both are OEM.

Ah, I see. So the Mann one should also be fine.

That puts my mind at ease. I have only ever received the "zigzag" ones from the dealer over the last few years.

ECP has the Mann filters on offer at £4.55 at the moment. Will maybe get another couple for future (5000 mile interval) oil changes.

Cheers for the input guys.
