Terrible condensation in new Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Have had my sexy new furby vrs for a couple of weeks now! Generally the car is great she is nowhere near broken in yet but compared to my last drive a 1990 vw polo it really is like warp speed even when pottering and on her first journey (a 200 mile one) she did 50mpg!!!

Have had a couple of probs recently thought i'd get a few opinions before going to the stealer just incase its me being a pratt.

One minor problem - passenger front speaker rattles with base. Common problem?

Major problem - after returning to the car after being parkrd over night first seemed to have very misted up rear screen, literally could have spounged it off it took an age to clear!!! This has happened on a few occasions. This evening though went to drive her after she had been sitting since the night before and the front screen was running with condensation. The demister wouldnt touch it on full. I had to resort to wiping it off with an old t-shirt I had in the car!

Any ideas as to a cause its a royal pain in the backside - cheers peeps

Check around the spare wheel, if you have that much condensation you may have a puddple or a leak in the car.

I found that I had the same problem with bass and the passenger speaker. Solution is to take the door card off and remove any stickers you see that are stuck anywhere its those that are vibrating with the bass and making that fuzzing sound.

Funny that, I have the exact same problem but it has just started and mine is 9 months old.

I had the same problem with a Golf I had previously and that was solved when it was found to have a leaking door skin?

Mine is going in tomorrow to see if there is anything wrong. I will post tomorrow how I get on.

Why not try leaving the aircon on for about a week as this should dry the air inside the cabin.

Have you made sure the recirculation is not switched on which can cause condensation?

Sounds like excessive moisture in the car, check all the carpets (under the mats too) to see if they're wet and also run the AC for the last 10mins of each journey before locking up the car.

cheers for the tips all i shall give them a try!

If any of the carpets are wet then you probably have a leaking door seal.

If it's any help, my Octy vRS is an absolute bugger for condensation in cold/damp weather and always has been! No leaks, etc, and I've learned to live with it!

I know this sounds obvious but other people have touched on it and you haven't specifically answered the point. Do you normally keep the air on recirculate? If so when you get out of the car at night it will be full of warm, damp air that will condense on the windows as the car cools. (This is particularly likely if you have just been engaging in spirited driving, or some other sweat-inducing activity :)

Try keeping the air set to straight-through and see if that makes any difference. If it doesn't then you really will have to look for a leak.

Car went in today and everything was fine, they couldn't find anything wet.

It is odd though, I run my aircon all the time and only put the recirculation switch on in traffic. After heavy rain it is so bad it is dripping off the windscreen and even with the rear window heater on all the time it doesn't clear.

I am not completely convinced that there is nothing wrong but I will keep an eye on it.

Hi,

I have had the same problem with my fabia. The windscreen was always misty unless I ran the a/c. I discovered that it was caused by water leaking in through the doors (see thread http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=39444). It is a common Fabia problem. Although it was not enough to make the carpets wet, it was making the door cards very wet.

I would check to see if this is not happening to your car. I spotted the problem when opening the doors straight after heavy rail. I took some photos, was useful when I took it to the dealer.

Hope this helps. Andy.

I know about the re-circ prob not that though I havent used the recirc function yet at all.

I think this weekend I need to go over the car with a fine tooth comb to search for any source of water ingress!! Thanks for all your advice tis most useful!

Just a thought but could your recirc be stuck on even though the button says it's switched off? It's electronically operated I think.

On a dry day, why not drive with windows open just to clear all the moist air in the cabin then see if it mists up the next day.

PS make sure you and/or your family have your coats on in the car :D

My car mists up so easy and like others here my windscreen drips with water on occasions ! . Seems like a very common problem I think we just have to live with it

But all that water has to come from somewhere!

If you really have airflow right through the car then the relatively small amount in your breath will be swept out instantly. There will be none left to condense on the inside.

I certainly don't get any condensation on the inside of mine overnight, even when the outside is covered in dew.

Probably not much help but -

I always find my windows are far less likely to mist up if they are spotlessly clean, obviously this wont really help if you have a source of water inside the vehicle that is misting things up but it cant do any harm!

I always find the chalky cream type of glass cleaner works best too, far better that those sprays or wipes that just smear the dirt around.

One other tip, go to your local

i personally put the heater on full blast and open the windows to shift some clean warm dry air in the car asi drive along. seems to work for me during these damp days.

BI certainly don't get any condensation on the inside of mine overnight, even when the outside is covered in dew.

Hurrah - I'm not alone! :D I used to run my Fabia with fan speed always set to 1 with the air con on. Never had any probs with condensation :D

Chris

Hey people, firstly i think you have a water leak into the car somewhere Hurricane (and the others who are complaining of heavily misted up windows).

I have recently completed a training course at work that covered Aircraft cabin conditioning systems.

Some useful infromation i found out may help you.

"Hot air can support at least 5 times as much moisture than cold air"

It may take a little while to get the heat first thing in the morning, but by putting the heater on full and blasting all the air you can to the inside of the windscreen, you will clear any moisture quicker (it also helps to crack the sunroof open a little or open the front windows a smidge to let the damp air out!!!)

Annother useful tip:- when you're nearing the end of your journey, open the windows fully and set the heater to cold to get rid of as much warm "moist" air inside the cabin as possible. This will prevent a large amount of the steaming (it won't stop it completely, but will certainly prevent the need for a rag or t-shirt).

I hope this helps

All of us with condensation problems (there seems to be alot of us) can't all have leaks in the car ! it must be a design problem with the car. I'm just learning to live with it annoying as it is !:)

I dont suffer with any condensation in my Superb, nor does my mother in her Polo, but my fathers Leon is always dripping with it!! problem is i'm sure, down to the fact he wipes his windows with one of those sponge chamois things soaking up all the condensation then leaves it in the door pocket (still wet) so it just rises back up to the windows every night!

I also never have my car really hot (a/c only on 21c max in even the coldest weather) so perhaps the lack of warm moist air helps too?

Righty been looking at a few tips over the last couple of days...

Well i definiatly dont have any leaks in the car yet inside of screen would be soaking wet in mornings. Someone said when leaving car set to Screen/Feet i've been doing this and.... Morning comes not a bit of mist inside the car.

So after solving that problem i found the car tends to steam up quite easily with air-con off when driving and i dont like to use it been a 1.2 almost kills any power i have...

Now glass cut the screens and applied anti mist from halfrauds..... Heat on about 22 set to screen/feet (sometimes closer to screen) wack the fan on 3/4 glass clears within couple of mins and just leave fan on 1 when cleared and it stays perfectly clear.

So   Sorted! Happy Bunny
