first of all thanks for letting me into this group

i encountered a strange problem today while driving my skoda octavia 2 l&k diesel 1.9 pd

 

the first and second gear shifting is extremely difficult its like something is preventing me from shifting ti these

i need to hold it very hard and change to 1 and 2

i took it to a local mechanic and he's like the gear lever bush is gone and needs replacemtn ,also can be tried to be repaired 

please give me any clue what the issue mayb as i don't trust the local mechs here .

p.s the clutch assembly has been changed a yr back so no issue with that

Firstly have you reset the gear linkage?

It's very easy to do and can make shifting 50x easier, especially going into first.

jus few doubts..

the locking outside the car where is it located,I'm kind of a noob in this ,kindly spot me the place it is

also the mech told me the bush is worn out and there s play in the system causing the stiffness ,would this method do the trick??

i saw this part on eBay ? would this fit mine and does it prove to be useful for this problem of mine ?

It's underneath the battery and battery tray.

There is also a shim that can be inserted to further tighten the changes. I'll see if I can find that video.

Id try this method before replacing the bush as it won't cost you a penny to try out.

oh thanks a lot .. i took it to to the skoda service centre he did the gear selector adjustment and now its way better.. 90 perc  i must say

i think i should try the shim method up as well .

after doing the lever selector adjustment the gear is stiff again. should i change the bushes >>??

Difficult or notchy shifts, particularly into first when cold, can be due to low or worn out gearbox oil.
