Sport mode

Featured Replies

I have to confess I haven't used mine in sport mode since I fitted a DTUK piggy back ecu and pedal box.

The pedal box ecu makes the throttle a pleasure to use instead of the push half way and then some more to get the car to respond, it's like having a smooth operating cable connected direct to the throttle body.

As for the engine ecu, well what can I say, turns an already quick car into a flying machine with + 80'ish Hp and an extra 60Lbft of torque.

As a bonus once it's removed it doesn't leave a marker within the ecu!  ;) .

  • I see no point in the mode button, to be honest.. I bought a vrs, i want full beans the whole time. Changed it to the economy setting once, bad mistake, even with a motorway trundle, the mpg got worse

  • Where the TDIs are concerned I think they drive better in normal throttle mode. Throttle modulation in Sport provides strong initial response but when revved out feels as though its holding back on f

Its also worth noting in many EU markets drive mode selection is optional on the vRS...suggestive that normal mode is about the best all round mode for the car.

Eco frustrates me....if it has any use it is to make you drive more slowly as it dulls the cars accelerative capabilities to the point you might as well have just bought something else...in my experience it hasnt helped achieve better economy.

Sport sharpens initial response but on my car at least feels a bit flat when revved out....feel peculiar and not particularly "sporty" apart from the noise the soundaktor makes. In normal the car puts out huge lumps of torque once at peak output and just feels quicker.

That is for a GTD 184 TDI Golf, might be better for a TSI.

Otherwise i think DMS is a gimmick....only thing it is useful for is adjusting the other mode settings for steering, AFS, AC etc nothing else.

It is gimmicky, I agree with that.

But it has its uses imo. Eco mode is perfect for cruising on the Norwegian roads, when you can Coast for several kilometers when coming down the Mountains.

DMS isn't suited to manual gear box but, in a DSG car its got its uses.

I've just gotta smile at your post Butchvrs, those coupla bits'n'bobs kinda complete the car don't they

Conceed the coasting function in Eco on a DSG is quite useful....

I guess you can do the same thing in a manual but its technically not legal to do so with a manual I'm fairly sure?
