Fact: Keeping stock speakers for a bit.

Fact: Already got mini disc HU

The barstewards at panasonic dont have a MP3 multichanger for me to use with my headunit.

Now, it looks like Ill be replacing my HU with a MP3 cd player, and maybe later add a MP3 multichanger.

Firstly I cant make up my mind about the HU.

I was cooing over a 4x60RMS alpine HU at an ICE dealer for

Fitting an HU is relatively easy, you can buy the convenient adapters from many places, so you just pull out the old unit, plug the adaptor in, plug the adaptor to the HU and slide it in. There may be a few other things HU-specific involved in the fitting (usually a cage), but it should be covered in the manual that comes with the radio.

TBH, I'd attempt it first, then it if you find you're half way through and can't figure it out, try for another half hour before giving up and going to the ICE fitter... :)

Fitting the changer is actually even easier, as it is just one cable which plugs into the back of the HU, which you then run to wherever you want the changer, and plug that in to. If it's Alpine, chances are it will matter which way round you put the cable in, or it certainly did when I did mine...

Not sure on the crossover - if it were me, I'd put the money towards speakers which are less prone to distortion than the standard ones. If you get coaxial speakers, then they should be able to handle pretty much any frequency thrown at them, making the need for a crossover much less (unless you want to to stop them playing bass frequencies for if you fit a sub).

Not sure on the parking sensors using the tweeters - guess the easiest way to test would be to unplug them and see if the reversing sensor still works... :)

Rob.

get the alpine 7813 is mp3 h/u i have one it is the DB's

sound quality is second to none.

Isn't it a 9813? :)

Rob.

sorry its early... ;)

I'll let you off then! :D

Any ideas?

The Skoda Parking sensors (Factory Fit & Skoda Accessory) use a seperate small speaker hidden in the B Pillar (under the seat belt).

Disconnecting the Tweeter has no (adverse) effect.

Note To Self. Must get around to posting the Pictures & Fitting instructions for parking sensors in FAQ.

talking of early, I feel like it's still 6am.

Pram race training last night - Did the 3 miles in 24 mins flat, with a dodgy knee & indigestion. :D More training tonight around the actual route where I live, and the race is on Sunday. I'll be soooooo glad for the rest.

back on topic - Audio. My HU is a cheap Kenwood 4x45 affair - good enough for my car and it's pretty decent stock speakers. The sub in the boot is just taking things to another level. :speaker:

Fitting was a cinch because I didn't do it... (Dad and I bought same unit and fitting was free from shop) hjaving said that the aforementioned shop gave me some HU keys when I bought the RCA cables, and it really was easy to remove and refit after cables and wiring had been done.

Ok then guys, give me a list of your fave ICE online retailers.

Jono

Personally I was very impressed with the prices and service given at http://www.mcs-direct.co.uk. But then, as it's the only one I've used, it's all I can recommend... :D

Rob.

The units you are all talking about were all a bit out of my price range. I just wanted better sound, not the best. The Blaupunkt units from Blue Spot seem to fit the look of the Octavia dash IMO.

I've said before that the customer service from both Blue Spot and InCar was excellent. ie they reply promptly to e.mail enquiries and don't mind you asking loads of questions before you buy.

I spotted this on Blue Spot. http://www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/toronto.asp

Rich,

Another
