Immobilizer issue!

Featured Replies

So in order to address this issue :

01314 -  Engine Control Module
            49-10 -  No Communications - Intermittent

I checked all the ECU wires, disconnected the ecu to check connections.

Turned engine over and it dies after 2 seconds...

I now have this code:
17978 -  Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer
        P1570 - 35-00 -

What i have tried :
I have tried using 2 different key
I have tried a 30 second soft reset (+/- terminals together)
I have checked the fuese and connections on top of the battery.

And advise ><

  • Those ebay immo defeat boxes should be made illegal, one reason why you should seriously consider altering the OBD port on your car to a non standard configuration so these boxes do not work and savin

I have tried using 2 different key

The immobilizer code is specific to the car and synchronized keys, so it definitely wouldn't fire if you tried to use, say, my key. So the question should be "Have you tried both of your keys?" followed by "Have you tried re-synchronizing one of your keys?" and "Have you put a new battery in your key?"

If the answers to all of those questions is yes, then my next thought would be of the loop aerial in the steering column.

Just to make this clear.

The car started and ran 100% how ever i had a error code keep popping up on vcds ( 01314 -  Engine Control Module

            49-10 -  No Communications - Intermittent)
So i decided to disconnect the ECU and clean up the connections

 - Now i have immobilizer error

-- The key worked fine before, the ignition worked fine before, both keys where programmed and never had a issue.

--- Why would my ignition be knacked, when it was fine 4 hours ago?
---- Why would my transponder/ keys / battery's be knackard when they where fine before...

I think we can rule key (unless its lost its comms)& ignition barrel out.

--  What issues can disconnecting the ECU do?
-- Is there a relay that might have been shorted?

Ok, I started with the cheap and easy checks.

This now has me suspecting that you may have put the ECU into "panic mode", which needs a VAG dealership computer to clear.

There must be a alternative ... how does one get a car that doesn't start to a dealership ><

Just too add, there is no immobilizer light on dash, but there is the vcds error code. And traction control light remains on  - maybe due to immobilizer stopping comms?

Check and recheck the connections, make sure all the pins are straight and none bent. Sounds like the car ECU and dashpod are not fully talking to each other.

Definitely check the connections on the ecu, if still no luck and you need a cheap fix to get driving again, you can delete the Immo.

Requires some soldering and an eeprom reader, bit of a faff but its a cheap solution. (Obviously a last resort)

Ive checked and checked .. the connections look pristine!

Ive just had the battery out, traced all the wires from the fuses on top of the battery, ive cleaned all the earth points. Still the same :(

If you've got the immobiliser PIN you can enter it via the dash buttons which will unlock it for a period of time.

does the immo' light show at all?

No

There are immobiliser override units on that auction site listed as VAG Drive Box, may be worth reviewing as a last resort to possibly get you mobile if nothing else works but as always with these things, you must accept that they could do more damage!

Oh dear, you have no luck with this Fabia.

I suspect the fault you have has now been made worse by messing about with wires and ecu's.

This is the reason I don't want to mess about with the clocks :D

I would...

- remove the battery

- discount the ecu and check nothing looks out of place.

- fit the ecu carefully and check its 100%

- connect the battery

- put the ignition on but don't try and start it yet

- do a full scan and clear every fault in everything

- ignition back off and key out.

- try and start it.

First time I've heard this, how is it done? Any guides or videos?

Thats all been done several times :(

I'm sure you've done them, but I don't think you've done them in that order.

Hmm nearly :P

only this steps been missed:

ignition back off and key out.

I will try that order tomorrow, i wont hold my breath tho :(

I guess not.

So after you've done the above or similar, when you start it, it starts for a second and cuts out, and then brings up an immobiliser fault?

yes turns over, 2 seconds then shuts off

 - I cant get rid of the code

- no immobilizer dash light on

Sounds like your car has lost your immobiliser code then.

Have you scanned the dash - instrument cluster for faults?

Yes  - no faults on instrument cluster

This might work .. as a temporary fix .. to get the car going.
