New Yeti - wheel kit - question about boot floor & first impressions :)

Featured Replies

I just picked up my new 2.0L 110 Yeti SE Outdoor - Silver with matching roofbars, Rough road package and a few extras levered from the dealer - rubber mats and mudflaps :)

I specified the spare wheel kit and it appears to be all fitted, but just wanted to check with members on one thing.  There is a gap of about 3 inches between the boot floor and the back of the rear seats, is that normal?

UPDATE - Sorry for posting the above, I've actually found a pic on another thread that confirms there is a gap ;)

I have purchased a complete bootliner kit from Hatchbag and will add a post with my impressions and pics later when I get it all fittted correctly, hence my question about the floor.

I've jumped ship from VW after having 4 Golfs, the last one a MK6 SE.  The only negative thing I have to day aboout the Yeti so far (and I have only done about 60 miles) is that on cornering the seat sides do not support me very well and I'm moving about :(  I'm pretty slim anyway but I wish they had produced the same side hugging seats as the Golf.

Other than that I'm amazed at the engines performance and the slick Gearbox, and am off for a day out now :)

Is that to allow the seats to be slid back on the runners?
In the Golf SV there is a filler strip to fill that gap.

The gap is very useful. I keep a spare small bottle of screenwash fluid, and couple of waterproofs, and shopping bags in there.

Urrell, it is there even with the seats at their rearmost position. No filler strip.

In the same way washing machines hide socks, that gap swallows umbrellas.

On removing the middle seat before last week's trip to Wales I discovered four of them hidden there

Umbrellas are like wire coat hangers:  leave them in a dark place and they breed!

Sounds like you are having fun. Drive it like you stole it! The gap in mine seams to be where my kids toss their banana skins. I chose mine over a poverty spec Mk6 golf leaving me money in the bank and a higher spec. No regrets.

I don't know what's going on with UK pricing, but a 'poverty spec' Golf out here is £11K on road for a 90(kW)TSI manual....£1K less than any Yeti, eg 81TSI manual.

There must be something I'm missing having just checked UK yours and the same Golf (125ps) seems to be £20K+......!!!

Surely not!?

I've got a set of 'PortableTowTruck' grip strips that fit perfectly in the gap. Though I never needed to use them yet.

Yes Ryman, you are correct on prices - best to avoid rip off Britain :) and the rest of Europe is not much better!

There should be a UK pricing RIPOFF thread with a shaming campaign.

The obvious question is - how can they export all VAG products to the other side of the planet and sell for vastly less than their UK 'home' market?.

I don't know what your market is but in the UK they can sell as many as they produce so possibly "sale and demand" comes into play?

Likewise, I don't know what effect Asian manufacturers have on European ones because here we have FTAs with Japan, S Korea, Thailand and before much longer China as well. Then there is the 'looming' Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) with potential for nasty surprises from the 'secret' negotiations.

Either way, in pricing terms 'the pips are squeaking' and Korean cars are starting to price themselves above Toyota in some instances.

It seems VW is trying to buy the nr1 position with a 'what ever it takes' pricing strategy and, the way the $A is going it can't last much longer you'd think unless they source from China.

If you like golf mk6 front seats, you should be able to retro fit them if you don't mind non matching rear seats.
