Looks like the Ninja 400 and KTM 390 need a few kilos weigh penalty to even it back up again...

Reminds me of when I was 17 years old.

Be interesting to compare the faired version of the duke 390, the rc390 with the r3 - I think the duke is faster than the rc to 60mph due to lightness, but there onwards the fairing helps.

The new 390s have bigger tanks and hence are a bit heavier and do not need restrictor kits for A2 licence holders.

R3 and RC 390 similar in performance though some RCs did well in the above WSS300 event. The Dutch run a very competitive single make championship for 390s.

After Aragon race I think there will be a push for the 399 cc kwacker to have another couple or three kilos and the 390 to have one or two more too.

133 mph is pretty awesome for this little bikes.

============================================================================================================================================

Rule 2.7.4

Minimum weight
The minimum weight for each model is as follows:
Honda CBR500R 156 Kg
Kawasaki Ninja 300 (EX300A/D/F) 140 Kg
Kawasaki Ninja 400 (EX400G/H/J) 150 Kg
Yamaha YZF-R3 140 Kg
Yamaha YZF-R3A 140 Kg
KTM RC390 136 Kg
KTM RC390R 136 Kg

At any time of the event, the weight of the whole motorcycle (including the tank and its contents) must not be lower than the minimum weight. There is no tolerance on the minimum weight of the motorcycle.

I wonder if Yamaha produce 'power' engine parts for the r3 like ktm does for the rc390:

http://www.ktmstuff.co.uk/tuning-kit-evo2

Not found much at all.  In WSS300 the stock engine is sealed but people do loads to the ancillaries.

Weighing it all up and I probably will Decat mine.

Other things people do is to drop the chain and sprockets size.  I think less for the weight and more for the less friction.

The R3 is raced all over the world ie Australia, Europe, US and there are lots of parts for them. Lithium battery to replace stock etc.

Lots of race bits but all to stay within the category racing restrictions.

Lots of aftermarket but Yamaha do not do much ie performance air filter, mudguard eliminators in some markets.

No big bore kits sadly to take it out to 400 cc. Rumours there will be a R4 soonish to match/better the Ninja 400.

Thanks.

So they have clipped the Ninja rev limit to 10,850 to stop it much higher top speed and get then to re-gear.

We have Assen our the next three days so we will see if it works.

Well done Ana........

https://www.motorsport.com/supersport/news/carrasco-takes-historic-points-lead-at-imola-1037043/

Ana Carrasco has become the first female in history to lead a motorcycle world championship, after taking a three-point lead with a dominant victory in the Supersport 300 race at Imola.

The former Moto3 points finisher stepped over to the new WorldSS300 series last year, and made history in Portugal when she snatched victory on the line to become the first female ever to win a world championship motorcycle race.   Carrasco – who was fifth in the standings coming to Imola after a sixth and fifth-place finish in the opening two rounds of the 2018 season – made more history on Saturday by becoming the first female to claim pole position.

I have all my excuses lined up....

She is much smaller etc but the some of the lads she was racing at 8 stone wet.

Fantastic launch off the grid and drive perfectly.  Must have been a dozen crashes behind her.  She rides intelligently without male hormones which is often a good thing in motor racing.

So she's maybe a similar size and weight to Pedrobot?

Giant by comparison.

156 cm and 3 kgs more at 53 kgs.

Thinnest i can be is a Rossi like 66 kgs.  Any lighter than that I would dangerously thin at 1.82 m. It is tucking under the bubble that is hard when one is tall but easier to get the centre of weight further off the bike for cornering.

Actually 6 footer though I think the weight, 66k kgs,  is  10 stone 5 lbs,  29 inch waist I recall back in those days, sad to say I am half as much again as I was in those days.

Very annoying that tiny people have such an advantage in most forms of bike racing.  Been a good week for us taller and a bit heavier riders with the quite tall, chunky guy ie Peter Hickman, scooping up the senior, reminds me of Dave Jefferies who was a bit of a bigger guy, RIP and all those who lost their lives in this year's TT and previous years.

Thankfully the World Support Sport regs have finally be changed for Brno this weekend, wish I had gone as love CZ, they are :-

http://www.fim-live.com/en/article/update-to-the-worldsbk-balancing-regulations/

FIM and Dorna have announced changes to the balancing regulations in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship category, starting from this weekend’s event at Brno.  After receiving the analysis of the relative performance of the machines, the maximum RPM will be changed before the Brno event as follows:

  • The maximum rev limit for BMW, Honda and MV Agusta will increase by 250rpm.
  • There will be no changes to the other manufacturers.

The relative performance will continue to be analysed after every third round (excluding after round 12).    The FIM and Dorna have also updated the balancing and weight regulations in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship. Starting from Brno, the combined weight of bike and rider (in full equipment) will be considered.

The minimum Combined Weight for each bike will be as follows: 205kg for Yamaha, 208kg for KTM, and 215kg for Honda and Kawasaki.

For the full details, check the updated 2018 FIM Superbike, Supersport & Supersport 300 World Championship Regulations.

Totally agree 2SE !!!

Okay I am going to have a go at the TV commentators and support Carasco.

Carasco said the guys were to aggressive and even Freddie Spencer commented that Carasco was too TENTATIVE.

Sports in general has to understand the difference between aggression and assertion. Aggression has an out of control element which is unhelpful in every sports including motorcycle racing. Even in boxing if you lose control and are aggressive the muscles tense up and the mind is not focused as effectively as if in an assertive state.

The boys lose focus of their goal in the overall race and just duff each other up at every corner which slows them down. It's obvious when qualifying that, if you discount slipstreaming, they follow each other round, nose to tail -  Even Johnnie Rea doesn't do this.

Well the boys fall off and Carasco wins - fantastic.

I hope she gets a good ride next year.

Totally agree 2SE !!!

Okay I am going to have a go at the TV commentators and support Carasco.

Carasco said the guys were to aggressive and even Freddie Spencer commented that Carasco was too TENTATIVE.

Great to see a R3 (like I ride) win the last race and help Ana win the Championship.

Ana had to adapt to a big weight change on the Ninja 400 (mid season) as the penalty system was reworked to even up the R3 vs Nija 400 vs RC370 vs CB500, and the rev limit lowering.

Not sure Ana would go back to Moto 3 but that is one option I suppose.
