Start - Stop when applying the parking brake in auto model

Featured Replies

Cheeky !! :sun:

I'm prepared to give as well as take !

The only annoying thing I find is I have to remember to turn stop start off more in the dsg car. the manual didnt cut in so often as i usually held the clutch down at junctions, but now it stops all the time. just give me a button that remembers i left it off I say  :D

Now I just drop into neutral with foot on brake if stopped for a short while at lights, the only time I turned it back on is when I was sat in traffic for an hour for the last mile of my journey on the way to the ferry last week.

Thanks all. In conclusion I still have no idea what I'm doing wrong, but it's probably my fault!

..and in further conclusion, after a long drive with my wife driving, and me observing it working properly every time, it is clearly a problem with me. I still have no idea what I'm doing wrong though :(

Even though I always disengage thr start-stop feature, as JD52 wrote earlier, using it like a manual is what I do:

  • When I want to immobilize the car : Press the brake pedal - shift autogear lever to N - pull handbrake
  • When I want to move again : release handbrake - press on brake pedal - shift autogear lever to D/S

In this case, engine stays on, even if start-stop is engaged.

Hope it serves !

But thats not really what I'd call an Automatic then is it ?

No, its not an auto, its a DSG  ;)

SS seems to take account of AC setting, if AC trying to reach set temp SS doesn't want to work, once temp reached SS works all the time. I get in car, start engine, select D/S, drive 26 miles, SS works, couple of hill approach T-junctions, no need for handbrake as hill-hold works when you release footbrake. End journey, select park and apply handbrake - automatic!!

Certainly AC/CC affects SS.

Mine would start up again to maintain the cabin temp when I was sat in traffic not moving, then switch itself off again once it had achieved this.

I too see the engine starting itself as soon as I put it in P and then put handbrake on and then remove my foot off the brake.

But, at this point leave the car as it is and within 30 secs or a minute, the engine will stop itself.

For me, the engine does start as soon as I remove the foot, but stops again without me doing anything.     :)

The engine re-starts if you put the DSG into 'R'. And it does say in the user manual you have to move quickly between 'P' and 'D' to avoid selecting 'R' or 'N' by mistake.

So maybe the OP just needs to move the lever faster?

I've just moved from a manual to dsg and found the exact same thing. Had it disables with vcds now. Don't need to remember the stolid button !! :)

Yuh the reason I resurrected this old thread is because I did a search on the start-stop system. I just wish the button remembered its setting from before when you start the car, instead of defaulting to on.

Don't like any stop-start systems as they must put an extra strain on the mechanicals. Our Smart has one as well and many people have reported wear problems with the Starternator. On both Smart and Skoda have now trained myself to switch off stop-start on firing up. Not too hard ...
