How far will a petrol O3 run when range = 0 ?

Featured Replies

I got used to my Mk1 diesel Octy being able to run for quite some time (easily 20-30 miles) when the computer said range = 0.

Reading a bit here suggests that petrol models may have a fair bit less leeway on the range calculation.

Anyone run their petrol Octy for any distance when it was showing range = 0 ?

I haven't had my car long enough to know the answer to your question, but I prefer to go from when the low fuel light comes on. There are supposed to be 7 litres of fuel left at that point, which should get my car about 70 miles, although the way some cars round here are apparently driven I think others would struggle to get 40 miles.

I have run for 10 miles or so after zero indication, and only managed to squeeze 48L into the tank afterwards. My guess is that there are 3-4L of fuel remaining once zero is shown.

I have the 1.4 TSI and it takes 55L total, so you can run for a while after range 0

Thanks all - I normally fill up at the same time as my weekend shop.  I've got ~100 miles to do between now and then, and range is currently showing 105 miles....

Vrs tsi here,  I've run out past 0 range several times (maybe a dozen) and based on mileage past 0 and what I've then squeezed in the tank, mine has about 2 or 3 litres of fuel left at 0 range.  I've done 12 miles past 0 and squeezed 49 litres in.  I reckon I'd get 25 miles if driven like a saint but would be very nervous once at about 15 miles past!

I'm wrong - the manual says 6 litres.

In the UK only the 4x4 is supposed to have a 55 litre tank, the rest are 50 litres.

'jthyssen' has the 50 litre tank on his 1.4tsi but he has re-filled with 55 litres. I remember his post and have referred to it several times.

It makes sense the mk2 55litre tank could take over 60 litres.

I've ran 10 miles beyond 0 range and the most I've managed to refill is 50.7L however, my fuel consumption does tend to be higher than some others !

If I had the balls for it, I would test it. My record so far is 49.xx liters. But the range hadnt reach 0 yet

Well...to feed back on the thread I started, I've just filled up with range showing as 5 miles.  Car took exactly 49 litres of fuel after a few clicks.

536.7 miles and 49 litres = 49.8 mpg (5.7 l/100km for you Europeans), against the 51.4 shown on the maxidot (about a 3% error).

Not bad!

I've gone 30 miles once the range has shown zero and got 47l in

Think I'd have just broken from the routine and filled up before the weekly shop!
