Stream Head Unit

Featured Replies

I have the standard issue Stream Unit in my car, with out the benefit of the Aux in the jumbo box.

I am considering is getting an MP3 Stream unit from eBay or similar and swapping them.

However, was there a MP3 and or Bluetooth version of the stream unit?

If I get a second hand unit, most of them don't seem to have the code available, so how do I go about getting the unit working?

Thanks for any help.

Tom

The stream unit doesn't have bluetooth. Why don't you upgrade to a bolero unit instead then add bbluetooth. You may also need to change the can gateway depending on year of your car.

What does a Bolero give over a Stream/Stream MP3?

My Car is an 06 plate Octavia Elegance.

As above. It's not worth messing about with getting a new Stream with MP3 and Aux. Spend the cash on a Bolero instead.

The sound quality will be better and you can put an SD card in for your music. It also looks much nicer;

If they don't come with the code you can get them from ebay too.

You will also need a new CAN gateway given the age of your car (2006).

You could also then fit a Bluetooth module to the car which would show on the stereo screen etc and give you Bluetooth music streaming.

OK, a Bolero seems to about £150, how much am I looking at for a CAM gateway, and what does that involve?

I assume the existing changer in the boot will still work with a Bolero?

Is it possible to add a Bluetooth unit that will work in conjunction with the changer rather than instead of?

Tom

Or just replace the CAN Gateway with the later revision and get an RNS315 with Bluetooth and Navigation (and maybe DAB and RVC) built in. :)

Give Eddie Nl a Pm on here. He'll sort a can gateway for you.even code it for you. Bolero has a changer built in.

If you're trying to do it on a budget then a Stream MP3 looks to be £40 ish on eBay and a Kinivo BTC450 (£30). Hard wire it to the aux socket and a 12v fed cigarette lighter socket all hidden behind ash tray. All you see is the little button/microphone unit.

It's not quite as posh a solution as a bolero but will get what you want for not much cash. Works well for me.

OK, so a Bolero provides CD changer within itself, it also does MP3.

Does it do Bluetooth natively?  Looking at a manual it indicates it might.  If it does, is that for music only, or does it work for making/receiving phone calls?  If so, do I need to wire in a mic?

What version of CAM Gateway do I need as a minimum?  Looking around it seems it can be in various places within the car, behind the glove box, under the wipers, in the drivers foot well, behind the climate controls.... Is there a guide as to where I might find it?

What is the "coding" of the CAM Gateway people refer to?

Seem to be gather more questions as I go :)

Bolero doesn't have bluetooth as standard. See my previous post regards the can gateway, speak to Eddie NL he will sort it.

In an 06 the can gateway should be behind the glovebox.

I looked at a couple of units and their manual and they mention BT something on the menu. So is it that some models do?

I had a word with Eddie NL, it'll be about 60 squid.

Just trying to figure out everything I would need.

Thanks, will need to find out how to get to it.

Bolero should still drive the boot-changer. Given that, as a rough, MP3s are 1/10th the size of an original CD, leaves you with 60CDs worth of music in the Bolero, *and* 6 in the boot. 66CDs worth of music......not bad.

My changer didn't work once I switched from Stream MP3 to Bolero. But - the SD card is a much better system as it allows you to view your music in folders, as long as you download it in a system that works for you (Artist/genre/decade etc). So much so that I never used the six-disc function on the Bolero. I'd advocate changing as it really does raise the look of the interior. I also managed to source a Bluetooth module on eBay for £100. I've now moved on to Columbus (but not sure I should've bothered as it only adds fairly basic nav) - if you opt for a Bolero unit, mine is sitting around idle as I'm trying to decide which of the two to sell. I also have a Stream MP3...

They control a separate Bluetooth module - the genuine ones are expensive and complicated to fit. But there are aftermarket boxes which work with them

Thanks, will need to find out how to get to it.

Its really easy,

From memory the glovebox is held on by 3 or 4 screws on the end of the dash accessible by pulling off the dashboards end cover, then you open the glovebox and there's another 3 or 4 screws at the top, then pull the glovebox forward and out, remembering to disconect the light and airbag cables.

The Canbus should then be right in front of you held on by a metal upside down 'Y' shaped bracket.

Its about a ten minute job :-)

I'll try and take a look this weekend see what the story is.

2 screws in the lower section of the panel.

Remove side panel 1 Screw there.

Open glove box - 3 screws across the top.

Disconnecting the airbag switch may well bring up the airbag warning light on the dashboard. See dealer or local member with VCDS to fix.

Don't turn ignition on at all with the switch unplugged and you'll probably be OK.

OK, between one thing and another - namely marriage, work and Christmas I never got round to this, however I am interested in picking it up again.

Does anyone know what model & revision of CAM Gateway is needed for the Bolero?  As I have just had the car in bits because the fuse kept blowing for the blower I took the chance to check unit I have, a photo of it can be found here.

Give Eddie-NL a pm. He should be able to source a can gateway and code it for you aswell.

OK, been doing some reading on this, the F revision has the battery drain issue.  However according to Ross Tech F, and many others are updateable, however I can only find one sketchy post through Google on this being done.

Anyone heard of it being updated?

If I'm going to need a new Can Gateway, plus the Bolero unit I might have to put this on the back burner again.

I don't have the maxidot display, when I select reverse the sensors only beep to alert, therefore I don't give two hoots about the graphical display from the sensors.  It seems that upgrading to the Bolero will stop the climatronic actions being displayed on the stereo display, is this correct?

Tom

If you want to upgrade, I have an as-new Bolero for sale at the minute.

Mike

How much and is this a straight swap for a Stream MP3?

Looking at options, between New HU or a Parrot Asteroid.
