Stream Head Unit

Am fairly sure that (unless this is only for RNS315/510's) that rev. L was the one with no drain. (I think some late K's were too, but L was the generally accepted definite one)

Yes, the upgrade will stop climate echo on the display, but that's no big deal as the info is two inches lower anyway. The PDC display is lost too, but the beeping remains (although make sure you're happy with the beeping volume before you swap, as Bolero doesn't have the option to change.

Yes, should be a straight swap.

You could go for RNS315 with Bluetooth (and navigation).....doesn't need maxidot, does need the later controller, fascia, and microphone, will give you hands-free, and SD card too.

I can't find the thread at the moment, but there seemed to be people talking about a completely different CAN Gateway with the part number being something like 7N0....

Does this require recoding like the 1K0 versions do?

As I understand it, the Bolero is a 6 disc changer, with SD, plays MP3 (is that from CD and SD or SD only?) but has no bluetooth functionality of it's own.  It doesn't require a fascia change.  There are 3rd party (cheapish) or an expensive Skoda add on for bluetooth.

The one with navigation and bluetooth built in is the Columbus isn't it?  That does require a fascia change.

Both require a change of CAN Gateway on pre 2007 and early 2007 as a rule.

Columbus doesn't have Bluetooth either as standard. Mp3 can be played from both cd and sd.

My Scout has the Gateway from a VW, 18 months along, no problems. It's the revision that makes the difference, not the vehicle. (So early 7K0 will have the same issues as early 1K0) The chances are any gateway you get will need to be coded, as the coding pertains to the equipment fitted to that vehicle.

You are correct about Bolero. (MP3 from SD and CD) If you're lucky, it will also control the boot-changer too, but it will still be CD only, not MP3.

A 3rd party bluetooth can be fitted fairly easily, and partially connected to the head unit.....there's a mute trigger and speaker input, so the stereo will mute and the sound will come out through the integrated speakers, but no display / phonebook / dial system.

The one with Nav and Bluetooth built-in is Amundsen/Amundsen+/RNS310/RNS315 - However, Bluetooth is an option, as is DAB, as is reverse camera input. To see if it has Bluetooth, there's a sticker on the side side with a MAC address on it, the number should NOT be all zero's. Requires a fascia change....less than a tenner though.

As Simon said Columbus doesn't have bluetooth, not even as an option. The only possible options are DAB and/or SSD, and that's only on the very latest (MKII) units.
