Drive modes

Featured Replies

I have a 1.4 TSI DSG. Having read one of the other threads around the DSG going into Drive after restarting when previously it was set to sport, I decided to have a play around.

I can see the DSG effectively has two setting (Drive and Sport) or is there actually an Eco gear mode as well? The E prefix in the maxidot in addition to D and S suggests there may well be an Eco DSG mode?

From a throttle response perspective is it actually that there's two modes, Eco and Normal and that when you specify Sport for Drive settings, that combines Normal throttle response with Sports DSG, or is there actually a more sporty throttle response?

Reason I ask is that in Individual mode what I actually want is Sport throttle but regular DSG shifting as I find the Sport mode for DSG a bit pointless (for my needs) as it just holds on to gears for longer.

The rest if the settings (ACC, steering etc) are fine, its just the throttle response and gearchange I want to get right.

Actually while on the topic, does the throttle response "learn" the driving style? I'm finding in Eco mode, the response is less sluggish than expected sometimes and I wonder if that's because its picked up that I do drive less Eco like at times.

Just to say, if you put it into Eco mode, it stays in gat mode after key off.

The throttle responce should be most responsive in Sport Mode and lest responsive in Eco Mode with Normal somewhere between the two although, I can understand your comments as the difference is not extremely pronounced.

The DSG is a little more difficult to control as you wish, it will remain in the mode you select after a restart unless you were in Sport when it will restort to Normal.

The gear change points are best done manually if you are trying to get the maximum acceleration by using only the most effective torque bands as the OEM's DSG maps don't do this although, DSG remaps are available however, these can be detected by the OEM's service partners and are looked for not by checking which map you have but by checking how many maps have been loaded thoughout the car's entire lifetime.

As you have a warranty I wouldn't advise a DSG Remap but, would suggest rolling roading your car to find its exact torque curve, then use that information to manually change through the gears, its surprizing how low a rev range the maximum torque is acheived but, changing up at or shortly after the maximum WILL throw the car down the road fastest.
